Who else would be 100% OK if they got laid off?

Currently a Staff/Analyst at EY and in the process of getting my clearance (I believe it's either Secret or Top Secret). A bit anxious about layoffs because although I'm staffed, my utilization is low

We’ll never be in this together until we realize that layoffs cannot be the normality in this business. Yeah this is a special time. But how come we’ve accepted to have layoffs all the time even when everything was ok?

So what’s happening in the local shops? Layoffs? Hiring freezes?

Having tough time deciding between IB & Consulting. My thought process: I have a "better" background for IB (TAS/valuation) and with tech layoffs, this might push more potential would-be tech applications to pursue consulting (there by increased competition)? Additionally, you can do IB intern and full time consulting but not vice versa. I prefer consulting, but IB seems like the "safer" option? And if consulting does get hit hard, I would hopefully have a full time IB offer via internship.

If I leave or am fired and my contract requires 2-weeks notice will I still get paid for those 2 weeks if they tell me to leave on day 1?

Is it weird that my CEO has not issued any communication to the company about the impact of the pandemic and what we are doing? Meanwhile, people are being laid off, furloughed and taking pay cuts.

Does Globant terminates the employment of certain trainees after their probation(3 Months) based on their performance in the training period? Some of the fresher trainees were laid off this morning without giving a notice or reason.

We were told that the probation period is a training period & not an elimination one. It was shocking as a few of those trainees were actually good.

So someone I know asked HR about a boot policy. When he found out that there wasn’t one, but his boss said there was (who gave the guys $ for boots and the claimed it on his expense reimbursements as something else) the boss got mad at him for askingHR (and in trouble for the expense reimbursements) and then 2 days later laid off my friend. There appears to be no notice of bad performance and this person always was the first person on the job site ready to work. Thoughts?

IHS Markit: Consulting and Professional Services

Anyone have experience at IHS? I'm thinking of making the move to there in their Consulting and Professional Services department from back office ops at a big IB. Work environment seems more enjoyable and it would be more client facing than what I do now, but after negotiating salary, it would be a $3k pay cut so that really makes it a tough decision.

Is pushing back a start date by two weeks simply because you’re burnt out from your previous spot and need to recharge before a new job a bad look? How should I phrase it? For example, new company wants me to start Aug 8th, I want to start Aug 22nd and do some traveling

I personally want to move towards FP&A bc I think it’s more interesting & transferable. But the benefits + pay is so much better at the PE firm. I think I will be happier working at the PE firm, but I think FP&A is more transferable if I were to leave (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong).
