Bain & Company Atlanta people! I’m in the process of applying for MBA programs and wanted to ask what recruiting is like for MBB from Emorys program? Is there a reasonable shot at getting into the Atlanta office from Emory, or are those openings primarily filled by other schools (Duke, UVA, etc.)

Ouch
They don't understand that people in other firms might have jobs that they enjoy and still pay well and they never tried to get into MBB anyways.

The treatment of people. The complete lack of knowledge from some senior folks. Manipulation of clients. The idea that the ends justify the means. Just to name a few.

It cuts both ways. For every elitist MBBer you’re referring to there’s a Tier 2 / Big 4 self-soothing and telling themselves, “they’re not even that great / I don’t even want to work there / etc etc”

The grass is always greener. I often find the work we do is very boring and not that distinguishable to what the majority of other consulting firms do

Honestly, the vast majority of the BCG people I’ve talked with in this app seem really cool. I’ve seen some pretty weird arguments coming from McK people, but I’m sure that they are just vocal idiots and don’t reflect the firm as a whole.
I remain unconvinced that Bain is actually still in business.
Hmm could it be that most McK people post under their title rather than company name, given the firm culture. So it's harder to see the good McK people
Possibly same with Bain
They also don’t realize that the skills for a McKinsey Consultant are actually low value and very different to Partner capabilities. Partners are 100% transferable across any brand. It’s more about your sales results and less about your MBB pedigree.
The bar is set high and simply they do not want to refer you without knowing you. I think there are ways to establish credibility or some currency ( trust, thought leadership, etc.) Before they refer you.
Please focus on what can you do to establish yourself which is in your control and move to the next Guy/Girl.

“Senior” is that b4?
Lol still playing the prestige game though
Some people lack satisfaction in their personal lives and can only find it professionally. I’ve known multiple people who worked at MBB and only the losers were insufferable. Most I found were humble and kind.
That’s a shame you’ve come across people who would even think to say anything like that, OP. I’ve never heard anything like it
Sorry you couldn’t get into my firm…
Just tryna fit in. Give me a break
Why are you “calling people out” in the first place? Sounds childish
Depends on person. I was at McKinsey for about 4 yrs and would never say that. Consulting is all about the people, especially for development/learning. If someone was at MBB and didn’t work with good people their skill set/attitude will reflect that.
Why are people calling them out in the first place? 🤔
