Because they are a massive bureaucracy and losing money.
They have to make sure Sir Martin is getting his $60,000,000 raise before they can give you your $3,000 raise.
they’re a corporate entity that is concerned with only one thing - $$$$. their margins are shrinking and they are far less profitable than they used to be. they don’t care about doing good work or hiring good talent - they are singularly focused on the top and bottom line. easier to cut costs than make it rain. and when you’re in a service business - there’s only one cost to cut.
They sure aren't losing money. But when you are anticipating slowing growth in a business where your primary cost is salaries it shouldn't be astonishing that approvals take longer.
I've worked on and off for WPP for almost 20 years. It hasn't changed.
Welcome to the shit-show
IMO promotion issue is the wpp thing. I quit wpp circle— now on different agency group. i agree w/ the burreaucracy is 7 layers deep (as what CW1 say - cuz i kinda been there lol). And also agree w/ analyst 1: in former agency i was at, they choose to hire newbies for less of a price instead of promoting the existingn one. And for Director1 - Yea man!!!
I think last I heard raises had 7 layers of approval.
You'll never get promoted at ipg either my guy
as compared to who?
D2 - has it gotten worse ?
@EVP 1 so can that be a real reason behind all those trending articles about how "35-40% of workers are going to be freelance" by 2020 like it's something fantastic? With narrow budgets agencies can't afford to cover all the extra costs associated with a full-time employee?
Bureaucracy. It doesn’t help that on the HR side they’ll acknowledge people want more compensation but then dismiss it as if that isn’t important.
