Literally feel stuck without my CPA! I currently work as corporate accountant and have 3 years of public accounting experience specializing in governmental and not-for-profit accounting.

There is not a senior level accounting position for me to move into at my current company and with 4.5 years of experience I feel like I need to move to a senior level to gain some supervisory skills. It seems without my CPA, finding a senior accountant position making 80k/year is not realistic. What can I do?

Currently a senior accountant at a small company doing the monthly close financial process. Got two offers, one as a senior cost accountant and one as a senior financial analyst. Both similar comp and at great companies that have 10,000 or more employees. I’ve been wanting to get experience in both cost accounting and financial analysis.

What do you guys think about a job at niantic? I got an interview for accountant role there. Is there growth potential? I feel like it would be good if they plan to go public but for now they don’t have any plans to go public. Any other startups you would recommend that are going public soon?

Hey all- I feel like I have always seen conflicted suggestions on when to leave and what position to leave for. I am an S2 (manager promo would be next year) making 80k in MCOL in audit. I have an offer for a senior accountant position with equity grant at hire and 100k base, no annual bonus. I feel like the base increase is more than I thought I could get, but is that true? Do I need to look for a different position in industry, or do I need to stay until manager? Any thoughts much appreciated

Considering senior corporate accountant role at a public firm. This would be doing JE, monthly financials, GL, etc. instead of being in tax/ audit (I’m currently in audit at another regional CPA firm). Do you think this would be calmer? Considering this vs. looking for internal audit

Anyone have insight into revenue accounting? I’m interviewing for a sr revenue accountant position and wondering if it’ll be too pigeonholed. I also have zero background in this type of accounting so it would be completely new to me, but the hiring manager didn’t seem to mind that I don’t have any experience in this area. I’m fed up with the hours and lack of support in public and want to leave before next busy season for context.

Started looking at jobs in private accounting. I scored interviews for a Staff Accountant, Junior Accountant, and Accounting Assistant. I just finished interviewing for the Staff Accountant position which feels very much like AP/AR and Bank Recs to start, similarly to the other two positions. Does the title matter? I want to be able to grow but at the same time I want to make sure I’m moving up positions in my job search so I’m exposed to harder/higher level work.

Potential employer is asking what compensation level I was looking for. They asked me to think about it because they are ready to make an offer. Currently I make $56,000 in LCOL. Potential firm is largest in the state. Current firm is large regional firm. Would be same role I am currently as Staff Accountant. Just not sure what amount to shoot for.

advice on switching from Public accounting at a Big four to an industry staff accountant position after only a little more than a year ? I have no desire to become some kind of CFO or CAO. Most of the applications we receive are for candidates with much more experience than what is required. I was expecting to see a lot of Big4 or mid-tier seniors or associates that are looking to move to industry, especially since the news lately is that PA firms are experiencing attrition at those levels. We’re offering competitive pay and great benefits. What gives?

I’m an S1 and got an offer for an in-house VC fund accountant position. I have a background in both partnership and corporate tax, but have more partnership experience. Don’t know if should pursue this since I heard fund accounting can pigeonhole but I like the stability and bonus potential. Any thoughts?

I have a company where I applied to a Senior Accountant role (3-4 weeks ago). I didn't hear back at all. But they just dropped a staff accountant role. I like the company and what they are doing.

Would it be uncouth for me to apply for the staff position too? Or is that a no-no? I feel like the cover letter would write itself - I like you enough to take a title cut. It helps they included the salary, and the staff salary is lateral to my current role.

Can you move firms to get a promotion or you need to already be in the position? I have been passed over for manager. I'm not a cpa but a jd and have been told this is an issue.I'm not an accountant so my business tax prep skills are a sub par but ok, my reviews say I excel well beyond others in getting the tax law correct and well argued when taking positions on IRS issues & complicated tax law questions and am sought out to do it. Why do I have to be a jack of all trades? Can't I specialize?

We’re hiring a senior accountant at the tech start up I work at. Most of the people applying have financial services or real estate backgrounds… I’m a little worried about those skills translating to a tech company. I was never in FSI so I’m not sure if areas like rev rec, PPE, capitalized software, etc get much exposure. Thoughts on if this type of background could translate well?

I am an MBA in Accounting graduate who has had a few AR jobs in my past professional career and in my current role, I do GL postings and reconciliations and ensure everything for my assigned account is entered and posted to the GL. I really want to transition fully into the Accounting world but when I apply for Staff Accountant jobs (in my mind a step above entry-level), I don't get many calls. What am I doing wrong? What should I be applying for with my education and experience?
