MBB vs Big 4 Discussions

Anyone got tips on jumping from Big 4 Ops/Tech work to MBB in Canberra?

I’m a consultant at Deloitte and have been recently getting more and more involved in the strategy work here / learning about strategic thinking. One of the “tools” we use is the strategic choice cascade (Roger Martin). When compared to MBB are you all taught similar framework/what are your thoughts when hearing something like this at a big 4? IE am I learning a “bad habit” by thinking about strategy in this somewhat binary sense? Please challenge my assumptions

Given yesterdays new consumer inflationary report (CPI at +8.5% YOY) and todays producer inflationary report (PPI at +11.2% YOY), combined with the fact that MBB has raised entry-level salary recently, how long before consulting as an industry raises entry-level salary and what do you think the NEW expected entry-level salary should be? Differences between MBB, T2, Big 4, etc?

Going to Wharton in the fall. Is it worth going MBB over returning to big 4 (sponsored)? Is this a common path?

Looking for some real thoughts and experiences. Have any of you met someone who has moved from MBB to Big 4 consulting or have you done it? Why and what motivated it?

I started at a big 4 offer recently but a recruiter from MBB reached out. I didn’t disclose that I recently accepted an offer and started. I have an interview coming up and in the job application I put my last job as my most recent one because I didn’t want it hurting my chances if I told them I just accepted a job.. will this come to bite me in the ass? Is there any way I can finesse this?

For truly global firms (MBB, Accenture), I would assume someone from any of the countries they operate in could give you a referral. Is that true?

Likewise, would assume that for firms with the member firm setup (Big 4) you’d need a referral from the specific member firm you are applying to?

How easy is it to make a move from tech&Ops/strategy side of MS/GS/JP at the VP level into a Consulting role at an MBB or Big 4 and does anyone know what level you would typically come in at along with salary? I’m trying to figure out weather progression and potential earnings could be better if I make the move. Thanks

Looking for advice—currently a senior in a transformation role at a Big 4 firm and will likely be promoted to manager this year. A BCG recruiter reached out about an opportunity in their risk practice. More interested in transformation work but BCG has a great brand and I’m curious if it’s a opportunity seriously worth pursuing. Generally speaking, I’m content where I’m at but who wouldn’t love a new challenge/more $?

Any thoughts on BCG risk? Is the money at MBB really that much more?

Do MBB and big 4 consulting look for something completely different in their candidates? I’ve applied to MBB previously and reapplied this year and got invited to R1 for all three both times. However deloitte and eyp previously and strategy& this year rejected me straight so I’m just curious…

From Big 4 have a T2 offer, would it be worth moving to T2 then MBB after? Or should I do corporate strategy and then move to a MBB

1st year tech consultant from Big4 to MBB research/knowledge analyst? Recruiter reached out and finished interview. Waiting on the official offer letter from MBB, expecting 77k base + benefits/bonuses. Currently getting 81k base at Big 4. I am interested in more analytical aspects from analyst role, but pay is less than consulting. Am I stupid to get a pay cut and move? Any other aspects to consider other than moving from client-facing role to back-office role?

I’m not absolutely sure I want to be in consulting & don’t know if going through the interview process for MBB is worth the stress/time (with the very limited energy/time I do have I would honestly rather focus on getting into tech if anything)
