MBB vs Big 4 Discussions

I'm a PhD student (graduating next year) looking to pursue consulting (ideally at MBB or Big 4). I would love to learn about full-time opportunities in New York starting 2023

Need serious advice. Been a Digital Strategy consultant for three years, heavy focus on product strategy, research, development. It’s a small but global consultancy (offices in nyc, brasil, colombia). Last whole year been acting as a technical lead on strategy for a team of 40+ consultants across different industries and even sold new projects including new clients considered unicorns. Can I go to MBB as a consultant and/or project lead? My salary is way below average big 4/MBB… don’t have MBA.

Is the difference between big 4 and MBB in compensation huge at top levels (SM and up)?

which is the higher priority, technical or business acumen - if my goal is to develop into a high-ranking Big 4 or MBB leader?

What does the recruitment process look like for PhD candidates for the Big 4 and tier 2 firms? I know MBB recruits PhDs, but am unclear about the rest.

Have the Big 4 raised their initial post-MBA salaries to somewhat match the recent MBB offer changes?

Hi guys, I got a feeling that big 4 or T2 companies kinda quiet in jakarta as opposed to MBB where they conduct lots of recruiting events (management consulting). Any reason for that particularly or maybe big 4 prefer internal hiring only?

Are MBB and Boutiques doing this massive hiring blitz with double referral bonus etc like the big 4 are? Or did they not fire all their people last fall?

Do any strategy arms of Big 4 or MBB do pre-MBA internships?

Currently at Big 4. Have offers for a PL/Principal at MBB and for a VP role at a Fortune 20 company. The VP role is more interesting and comp a bit better but I’m told would accelerate faster at MBB. The initial plan was to end up at MBB. What’s the best for future flexibility?

Salary expectations for Big 4 strong performing Senior 1/2:
1) Exiting Big 4 to bank
2) Switching from Big 4 to Big 4
3) Exiting Big 4 to Strategy House (non-MBB)
4) Exiting Big 4 to MBB

Thoughts?

Any tips/warnings/advice on potentially trying to move from Big 4 to either MBB or a T2 boutique firm? I’m anticipating reaching M1 in Big 4 within the next 12 months. I really like my current practice, but frankly as I eye comp across the bowl, I’m hungry for more elsewhere, even with the recent Big 4 bumps. I have 5 YOE (3 consulting, 2 industry) all within somewhat niche subject matter, as well as my MBA (non “prestigious” school however). Any thoughts or clarifying questions are welcome, TIA

Mulling over an offer. Is work at MBB way more work / significantly more intense than Big 4? I feel like I have a good brand/rep at EY; not sure if effort to rebuild all of that at MBB is worth it?

Discussion post: I feel almost all consulting firms are the same. Mbb, big 4 etc. if you are paid enough there is probably less wlb. If there is good wlb there is not much money. Can you single out a company that you can confidently say pays very well and also has good wlb and also has good opportunities etc.?

want to interview at MBB again. Last year i had started the process but had to stop the process due to severe family emergency. What followed was depression and im doing fairly better now. Subject matter expert with my CPA. I’m completely fed up with the compliance aspect of public accounting Tax but don’t mind the technical side. Does it make sense to become an attorney to get out of compliance work and still do something related to specialty tax?
