75k salary with 180 hours a month billable for a civil premier defense firm......seems a little low on $$$ for the billables ...I’m a second year associate ....any thoughts?

Yeah, that seems pretty low. How are benies and bonus? Especially for second year.

Benefits include medical, dental and vision and 401k...bonuses were really explained well but he said once you go past 180 then there’s additional $15 added on hourly which was super confusing and made no sense but he could not elaborate further. ...paid parking and mileage but no vehicle depreciation and 44 miles of commute (round trip)

Monthly hours requirements are not cool.

like

Agreed.

From the firm’s standpoint , it depends on your effective hourly rate and what’s the market and demand is for other lawyers with your skill set. If you effective hourly rate is no more than $ 150, your pay is in the ballpark. Over that, not so much. The practice of law is both a profession and a business. If you can be replaced by someone else who is willing to work for $ 85,000, then they is little incentive to pay you more. The good news is if you can find someone who is willing to pay you more ( or require you to work less hours ), you free to free to move on. I don’t need to tell you that 180 billable hours a month is a lot.

So I’ve been with a court for a while and honestly the pay sucks compared to what paralegals should be making… the benefits are great though and they match my retirement 100% now that I’m vested at 3 years.I have 4 kids and 1 is getting ready for college. I feel like the benefits are great but I’d rather make more now. I am a previous LEO for 4 years who switched to paralegal so I have my leo retirement. Paralegals here make $28 with no benefits what is a good compromise

My post is for a lot of folks here who complain about managers not budging to negotiations and not offering package ,what you are expecting.I have one thing to say, there are lot of ibm employees who moved to kyndryl. Inspite of lot of contributions they are earning meagre salary. Now do you expect these people to hire you for more package most of time the package you are demanding is more than what these managers draw. So pls do not look at kyndryl as any other startup.Thanks.

So...
What to do? What to do?

Came back to school in August with a cruise ship still sitting on my stage. We walked away from Anything Goes the day after the sitzprobe because of the quarantine. Still taking the wind out of my sails.

We are here now, but not able to stage shows. Logic says, "Do a radio show!" Just not sure I want to subject the kids to the emptiness of that performance style given the Zoom life they've been living. The production of it could be fun though.

Thoughts?

IEP, 504, and those without internet will return in-person next week while rest of students remain remote. Regular Ed teachers may have students (mild Learning Disabled kiddos) in their room while teaching. They are saying it’s a liability issue if they have one student in the room with them, even though teaching other via Zoom. Thoughts? Anyone else experiencing this?

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me. Should I be concerned (I.e., will this reflect poorly on me, come review time? Will I have dug myself too much of a hole if I keep burning my non-billable hours?) As a mid-senior level associate in litigation/investigations/arbitration, do you feel like what you’re currently doing is actually holding you back in terms of professional/personal development? We spend so much time going over the nittiest and grittiest of details that I feel like I’m not actually learning anything new anymore or expanding my skill set. I work in a super lean team and as a 6th year I’m still doing a lot of the grunt work. Is this normal?

Working on some law firm applications tonight and it sucks that I know that I am so capable and have a strong work ethic but firms can’t see beyond grades or the fact that I didn’t go to a t14 law school or prestigious undergrad. Beginning to consider going in house (4th, corp) - I really haven’t thought about what I want, partly because I’m not sure what’s out there/attainable. I’ll of course prep for the interviews but am afraid to burn potential bridges if I ultimately decline because I’m still figuring things out.
