Think they did a good job on this piece. It was a truly embarrassing moment for the firm, but I think it’s being handled as well as can be expected. Should go smoothly this year 🤞

Was it part of larger layoffs? 2 weeks severance for under a year feels standard
Name and shame….
Chief
Naming and shaming a company for what? For firing someone? Lol
Did your friend do something bad?
You can always ask. Worst they say is no.
Sounds like Publicis. There was a thread with names of attorneys that have help others in the past. Might be worth doing a search.
If your friend was part of a private company, they may have more leverage to negotiate a severance package. However, if they were part of a holding company or a larger organization, they may be less likely to receive a generous severance package.
Sometimes you just have to let yourself go, understanding that perhaps you aren’t always correct and that there are circumstances you could have considered beyond the obvious. Or you are too broken and you won’t be able to be your former self which is fine too but what goes around comes around so no one is going to fire you- you have to resolve the situation on your own.
I’m getting this tattooed
Ofc it’s possible to negotiate severance but, for the company, it’s all about getting you to sign the contract that says you won’t sue.
Seems pretty standard.
If they have a grievance suggest they get a lawyer.
Ha! Good luck with that. I was at one more than a year and a half. They didn’t pay for unused vacation days (guess it was in the contract) only paid like 8 days. Like I say, this is where you work, they are not your family. It sucks. I woke up one morning and boom!
In a staff reduction, two weeks is considered a courtesy, even for people who’ve been on staff for multiple years. And during a staff reduction, even highly-regarded employees get let go. The best thing is to move on. However, if the person who was terminated is part of a protected class, they can threaten a lawsuit. But then they get nothing. And even if they win the lawsuit, they still might not get much. The court will assess the damages, and it probably won’t be worth the negative reputation.
