Hi all, recently in touch by Spotify recruiter for a Sec Engineer position for remote EU and was told that range was 60-80 out of base salary and equity. Had 2 years of security experience out of my 4 years. Was also told that there is no bonus scheme or no sign in bonus 😕 Not sure how I feel about this tbh.
What do you think?

10k isn’t much of a bump when you break it out and u can always use that as leverage with your current company to get an increase
Be careful about doing this--I never recommend trying to get your company to counter offer unless you are truly willing to take the leap. They might turn you down, and then if you decide to stay anyway, you end up looking bad.
10K is not worth making a switch over (unless you have a very strong bonus structure to go with it).
I recently made a switch from a comfy role, great manager, a team I loved. It was worth it because I got a crazy pay hike, but I still miss the comfort of my prior job.
If your job is slow paced, focus on picking up hobbies, learning, certifications, upskilling, etc.
Make a job switch when the parallel comp justifies it.
Also, try to pick up some internal projects if that’s feasible.
Core recruitment can be dry and transactional, and the only aspects of my prior roles that I remember fondly are the projects I did- DEI, process automation, analytics, etc.
When you’re ready to make a job switch- you’ll have a broader portfolio to talk about.
Is your company hiring?
Keep looking! I mean, personally I love a hybrid situation but if you like WFH there are recruiter roles out there and you probably can get more money. But I don’t like being bored at work!
Stay!!! 10k comes out to 4K after taxes if you have state withholding. Unless you want to travel and can’t afford it, which can be the benefit of work travel but otherwise I suggest staying!
How did the job offer come about? Were you looking….if so - why? If you were looking and it was for more money take the new job. If you were not looking and were happy with your current role…stay.
10k is obviously a nice bump but not massive when you consider travel etc. You've got to weigh up all the extra benefits of where you are and what you want from life in general not just work. If you have loads of flexibility to have the life you want and a great manager, I would recommend staying where you are and maybe seeing if there are other projects or areas you can get involved with to break up the repetition.
Go with your gut. Is 10k more worth it when you mix in the travel and uprooting your routine?
No, not it is not.
Not big of a bump to give up those great perks you have
10K isn’t a bump. You’ll be missing out on your flexibility to work from your couch. Also gas prices are up! Why even bother?
10k is not a lot - it'll break down to an extra $200 on your paycheck (give or take!)
Are you willing to sacrifice WFH for an extra $400 a month?
Faced this scenario! Actually exact scenario. It was a tough decision for sure… however, I ended up staying in my WFH position. I weighed all pros/cons & ultimately, I decided the flexibility I had (and not having to get up & get ready to go into an office) was worth it. I also have kids though, and their schedule can be pretty crazy. A hybrid role would have been tough with that as well. Also, there are a ton of companies currently hiring for remote roles, if you’re looking for more money I say keep going with your search.
Being honest with you OP, the most important part of your message is "with an amazing manager". You should leverage on this advantage. Good leaders are transforming.
Why not try to ask her for more complexity/robustness in your role or via special projects? That can lead you to a pay increase as well. 😀
If WFH is a big factor for you, don't compromise that. There are plenty of companies offering remote environment and could include that bump in salary. Stay your course until the RIGHT new role comes along.
My dad always says “don’t change your job for less than 15k” so that’s my rule of thumb. Plus, between gas prices and income tax, not to mention the inconvenience of changing insurance, transferring your retirement plan, the awkwardness of working with new people, changing your entire routine when you have a good thing going, losing your seniority, resetting the clock on the availability for FMLA or PFL, you are way better off staying where you are. Oh, and buying new work clothes! That’s not fun either.
I’m kind of in the same situation. I have been with the same company For 19 years, 100% WFH. Many times I find myself idle (not happy about). I’m paid well for not doing much. Recently A former boss reached to me looking to see if I would entertain a position with her company. I don’t have any position details, believe it is also 100% remote. Not sure if I should entertain a jump and if so what percentage increase should I ask for?
Stay. $10k is nothing in this bloodbath of a market
The fact that you were looking for another job tells me everything that I need to know… I’m late to the party but I hope you took the offer.
Having a good boss and flexibility is not worth 10k (before taxes).
I would ask myself a couple of questions.
- Do you feel fulfilled in your current position?
- Do you like "not being busy"?
- Do you want to travel for work?
It's ok to just want to remain in the current position. I would make a list of pros and cons. Yes maybe 10k is not an enormous amount of money for some people, but at the end of the day, it's still 10k plus bonus, plus travel, plus hybrid.
It all depends on you and your personal goals at this time in life. :)
So smart to think this through before accepting an offer elsewhere. Not sure if someone has said this already- but since you are confortable speaking with your manager- have you spoke with her and told her you feel this way? I’d HOPE this is a company who’s culture supports growth. $10k isn’t that much- let your manager know 😏 so that you can see if there is a fit for you working from home (possibly in a more challenging role) and able to bring in that increas. Or simply tell her you’ve been offered another position at a pay increase and the ability to challenge yourself, and see if they can counter. IF NOT theeennn possibly knowing that will help you with your decision. There are other opportunities that offer great pay working from home. I’d try to negotiate the hybrid pay to be a little higher than the 10K increase.
Wishing you THE absolute best!
