It’s so sad you even have to ask although I’ll pass along advice I received. You have to prioritize your life and can not keep giving everything up for a company that would likely discard you without a second thought. Just block the time and go. It’s advertising someone will do the work. You deserve so much better than that. Glad you are pursuing a move. Just build that boundary in your next role upfront
👏👏👏
That seems more like prison than a job! What would you say if you had a dentist appointment? Or had to see a doctor? Or if you had to pick your child up from daycare? What if you had a friend or relative who needed help getting home from minor surgery? My point is, we all have things that happen in our lives that take precedence over a few hours of the work day. You can’t let yourself feel so afraid that you become trapped. If the department is understaffed—and you actually want to help--just say you need to take the morning off on a certain day but will plan to work late that night. @SVP1 offers great advice.
Actually a good alternative is you have to attend a funeral. No questions other than sympathy. They may even be kind to you for a week and give you a lunch break (for time to grieve)
But send the request in an email lol
But what if the interview is with your partner?
8am slot
What if you start your job as 7:30am daily ha ha ja
Rohypnol.
You aren’t required to give anyone an explanation on why you’re taking time off. If they pry that’s super unprofessional and just another reason to keep interviewing. “I’ll be out on so and so day” Conversation over.
Girl you are soooooo sick. You’d hate to get the office sick right?
GYNO block on your cal
Say you have a toothache and it’s an emergency, you need to see a dentist... then if you have a follow up interview, you need a root canal...
Sounds like you need a sick day... the office will still be there when you get back!
I posted something similar recently because I'm in the same boat. I've had to use PTO time because we only get 10 PTO days and 3 sick days.
Yes. 10 PTO days and 3 sick days.

Tell them you have a doctors appt
Ask for early morning or late afternoon interviews. Many companies do understand.
I do but any OOO longer than 2.5 hours results in needing to submit half day PTO
I've been in that situation. I've been late to important interviews because of people grabbing me for "1 second" while I was on my way out the door. A recruiter finally told me I'd have that shitty job forever if I didnt make time to find a new one. Yes, she wanted to collect her fee, but the advice was spot on.
Do and say whatever you need to, just take care of you, the fallout be damned; your boss/company is creating the problem by being so controlling.
