Anyone from Boston Consulting Group Boston Consulting Group (BCG) working in non-consulting - Technology/Engineering/Global Services?
How's the work life balance? Glassdoor reviews are full of "long working hours" and hence wanted to know if it's the same with non-consulting folks as well?
How far is it true across the organisation?
Please help me shed some light to decide.
Thanks.
Does anyone have any insight into accounting roles at Amazon, particularly in the Arlington/DC area? An Amazon recruiter reached out about accounting roles, but the posts in this bowl are about Seattle. Trying to decide if the culture/wlb/pay is even worth looking into since it sounds like the interview process is intense. Base pay seemed pretty low in other posts, but they were a year old and for Seattle.

I work from home 6-7 days a week, 10-12 hours/day or more. How do I handle burnout? Not so good. 😢
I often miss the long commute I once hated; in retrospect it added a much needed separation between work and home. It was like a moat, protecting my sanity.
Maybe this will help you like I presume it does me.
Give yourself something to look forward to. Whether it’s a coffee drink or pastry from someplace near the office that isn’t near your home, or making rounds saying hi to co-workers you wouldn’t otherwise see (my extrovert is showing).
Commuting is annoying but it gets less annoying with little comforts. And the time in office can be a shared experience with your colleagues also coming in 5 days a week.
Best of luck!
Never did anything different. During the height of the pandemic when there was no one downtown and only a handful in a huge office, I had wine at lunch and brought a to go cup back to my desk. Unhealthy AF. Now everyone's back and I'm just working.
I want to add that I have a new job where I'm valued and excelling. If you're really struggling, maybe you can see what else you can find?
Me. At a boutique firm and my boss does not allow working from home. Super annoying and tiring.
As for dealing with burnout, looking for a solution myself lol.
Have you considered going in later in the AM and leaving late to avoid some of the traffic?
I worked from home for awhile but now come into the office 5 days a week voluntarily. Assuming you're doing the same amount of work in the office as you'd be doing while WFH, I guess the burnout would stem from the commute? I enjoy the commute because, as others have said, it helps create some separation between work and home life. But mine is only about 45 minutes each way.
The burnout is real. It is usually a sign that I need to take a vacation, but I just took one in September and it didn't help. I take a pottery class and have other interests outside of work to ensure I get away from the office and work periodically. I am currently trying to find a new job. I also need to get my thyroid meds adjusted. The exhaustion from that is making things worse.
No. I refuse. If I was forced to, I’d look to lateral or go even in-house. I go in at least three days, sometimes four. Never five. The firm would be stupid to force me to do more. I exceed my billables and spend hundreds of hours a year doing business development. I promise you I wouldn’t be doing as much of either if I was forced to commute more, have less flexibility on where and when I can meet people for lunches and dinners, and also spend more time surrounded by my coworkers who hate their jobs (and frankly bum me out half the time lol).
Office 5 days a week
I prefer it there
15 minutes away
Great office and support staff
Good interaction with co workers
Go to lunch with friends half the time
Lax dress unless I am in court or meeting with clients
Audible on the commute is helpful and try taking your weekend to yourself if at all possible. Also see if you can come in early/leave early, come in late/leave late to avoid traffic.
Not I.
