Anyone have experience on consulting to law school? Big 4 consulting to law school more specifically potentially? Curious as to what you’ve heard about how the transition is. Cost, time, relationship effects. Curious to hear others experiences. Also haven’t sat or studied for the LSAT fully yet. Already have a master’s that’s not impacting my salary in my consulting field yet at B4. Can’t seem to shake that law school inkling in the back of my brain still.

the experience is what you make it...Big 4 to non-target law school, and summering in BigLaw (Vault 100) firm this year.

I went to law school part time while working in B4. My advice to anyone considering going to law school is always to know what you want to get out of it and to fully understand the costs of going - not just the cost of attendance, but lost earnings, contributions to 401k, etc. If you understand all that, have a plan for why you're going/what you want to get out of going, and still want to go, then I think you should. I don't regret going at all, but it's a lot of hard work and it was expensive, even with scholarships and a certain amount of work reimbursement.

I had communicated that I wanted to do this when I was interviewed, so it wasn't a huge surprise when I did it. Having said that, when it came time to formally accept my position at a school and start planning, the partner and MD acted like they didn't know (which is extra funny because they wrote me recommendations to get in), but I took advantage of the fact that we were starting a project they would really struggle with if I left to get them to approve it. It didn't stop them from asking me to travel during the semester or during finals, and sometimes I did have to go and it was on me to manage the professors and what I missed.

Also, just in case it wasn't clear, I worked full time and went to school part time, and this is what I would recommend too, because you don't really work in consulting part time. If you are "part time," you work full time hours for less pay and fewer benefits.

Most people I know who went to law school are super stressed about their jobs. They either make more than me but are very unhappy, or make about the same or less and feel OK. So unless you just would love working as a general counsel or something it doesn't seem like a great route.

Top school like seriously top 1-5, or I wouldn’t bother. You won’t make out any better going to a sub par school then staying in consulting. Unless it’s your passion then go for it and get into the best school you can.

I wouldn’t call 5-14 sub par schools. What’s your rationale for excluding those?

Need advice - I've been talking to a Partner contact at a big-4 firm where I REALLY want to work. She sent my info to the managing partner in my city, but I haven't heard anything for about 3 weeks. Been playing it cool because I know these things can take time, BUT, I just got let go from my current firm. I have til 12/15 to find a new job.

Do I tell her my timeline is now a month, or is telling them I'm getting fired going to tank my chances of getting the job?

I have an offer to join a startup as an APM. The only downside is that the engineering team is located offshore in India. I’m concerned about the resulting impact because of 1) the potential late night calls 2) the learning opportunities missed by not working with a US engineering team (communication tactics, translatable skills) 3) potential exit opps into FAANG pm roles due to not having experience with an onshore eng team. Would any one be able to speak to this from experience or share advice
