Fantasy land, unless you're talking about running an at home child care center. You don't take your child to the office. Neither should you have your child at home during prime time work hours. I say this as a single parent whose kid is home for the last 2.5 hours of my workday. There's a notable decline in productivity when my kid is home and I'm trying to work. Add ADHD to that - trying to juggle emails, meetings, feeding/ entertaining the kid, and switch back and forth between all of those things - it's just not realistic most people, and especially not for those of us with ADHD.
I 100% agree I have worked from home for 14 years and even having a pet at home can be distracting. My co requires people to have child care during the Day.
I disagree with this. I’m in insurance sales and while it was noticeably more difficult with a small child at home during the pandemic, I was able to work from home and still earn a 6 figure income. Already having an adjuster background, you can likely pivot pretty easily. The only thing I would see being remarkably more difficult is sourcing business if you can’t go meet people, but even then, sometimes you can take kids with you to networking events or find a short term babysitter for a few hours for a chamber meeting.
I outsold a whole bunch of my peers who had stay at home spouses to take care of their kids. I had a spouse who was active duty and gone most of 2020, so I still, respectfully disagree. I think it fully depends on the industry, processes, and person.
