I’m probably in the minority, but I actually encourage my people to tell me when they’re looking and try to offer coaching and support through their search. It’s unrealistic to believe that we are all going to retire from the first place we work after college. Funnily enough, the first place I worked doesn’t even exist anymore. I understand that some work situations are toxic and transparent communication between team members is strained at best. I’m sorry that seems to be the case here. If there’s someone you trust and can confide in, it might be worth talking to them about why you’re leaving and what you’re looking to do next. Everyone (including you, even if it doesn’t feel that way now) wants to part on good terms. Our professional world is too small not to be kind whenever we have the chance.
You should always be your first priority. No one you work with will ever care about you or your career as much as you. Have the job offer in hand.
Dentist appointment is perfect. Follow up appointment for a cavity for the second interview.
This is brilliant. 🤣
‘I’m interviewing for another job. Mostly because you’re an incompetent tool'
I’d just enjoy that unemployment check for a month or two before starting a new job then. Definitely sounds like a dream scenario
Doctor. Helping family move. Funeral. Diarrhea
^No. you don’t inform your employer about a potential new position until you have the offer. The employer can fire you for no cause or for being disloyal so you don’t tell them you are interviewing.
I had a very different experience. Was contemplating a role in Industry and wanted coaching about the opportunity from a couple of partners I trusted. They gave me open feedback without telling me necessarily that I should stay with the Firm. I ended up weighing the options and went with a different opportunity within PwC, but the reality is people leave this profession every day, so it shouldn’t be a shock to anyone. If someone gets worked up about you considering other options that’s a ridiculous view to take because the Firms’ structures are built to necessitate turnover at all levels
To SM1 point, this is not my first rodeo. Perhaps I was shaped from circumstance, but I am no longer the naive employee who thinks their manager or employer has their best interests in mind. I now take books like 48 Laws of Power by Robert Green seriously
It’s not mine either. I hope that you find people in your career who you do feel are invested in you this way

EY have those days called personal days. « I am taking a personal day today « 🤷🏼♀️
An appointment. I usually don’t specify, as it could be anything....doctor, dentist, nail, hair...I never had anyone question it
Don’t feel good.. taking a few days off to mentally regroup... the opportunities are endless lol
Assuming you’re competent, anyone that would fire you because you told them you were looking for another job is just missing an opportunity to help place a friend with a client or help someone out in their network. I’ve only seen people that should have been let go sooner get expedited out after talking about leaving .

You don’t have to give an excuse. They don’t own us.
Haha, enjoying this thread
I’ve had interviews after typical office hours. I told the partners too just to give them a courtesy of a heads up no threat, unlike others have done (I’m gonna leave if I’m not promoted). It worked for them but generally others don’t like working with it for someone who more often than not pushed their promotion rather earn it be demonstrating our straw man skills.

I have a “personal appointment”. Accurate response but weirdly vague where people don’t want to pry into what it is.
