So I’m currently looking for another role within IBM. I apply for this job online and Slack the hiring manager letting them know of my interest and that I would like to chat with them about the position. Here’s the problem: I got an automated email notification saying I’m no longer being considered for the role and they are no longer hiring for the role. The hiring manager still scheduled time on Tuesday to talk to me?! Umm, what exactly are we gonna talk about if the role doesn’t exist anymore?

After 12+ years in FTE roles both agency and brand side in strategy/brand marketing/social strat roles. Thinking about taking it freelance. But I’ve never done freelance or consulting before - ever. I’ve worked at places that all have different holiday policies. EA has at minimum a nice 10 day shutdown from Christmas Eve through New Years. It’s great to know that there will be no slack messages or an exploded inbox to come back to while away. I’ve been at other studios that only give you Christmas Eve & Day and New Years Eve & Day and then the rest is up to you to request for PTO and this is obviously the suck.

2020 fall admit here. Many of my main drivers for business school have been impacted by COVID-19, such as getting back on campus and meeting new people. I'm working in a company that I like, but I'm been quite underpaid. We recruited a new recruiter with a salary 25% more than the one I'm in. I've been approached by other companies, but I wouldn't like to leave, the only reason I would consider moving to a new job is the salary. Should I be open and discuss it with my LM? The formal salary review process is approaching in 2 months, but no way I could get a good salary increase in the formal process, I believe the max could be 6%-7%.

Advice on taking the SHRM-SCP exam? I’m taking the exam tomorrow and not feeling as prepared as I should. Who has taken the SCP exam? How difficult did you find it?

I’m not old BUT when I was younger I thought it was important to have all the alphabets after my name (I.e. Phr, SHRM and all the others). I learning that the younger crowd coming into the market thrives off these identifiers yet they know very little about the real world aspects of the job. I watch leadership roll their eyes at the email footers. I feel like keeping those attached to my name hurts my credibility so I removed them…. I’m I thinking wrong?
