I recently started a new job as HR Generalist at a small government contracting company. I only make about $66k/ year when previous i started closer to $45k but as a single parent of a kid in daycare, im struggling. I want advice on the best way to build my career as fast as possible to reach by goal of making $100k within the next 3 years in HR. What should I do to further myself professionally as fast as I can? SHRM classes? certs? PHR? all resources welcome!

I just recently promoted to HR assistant manager. I have my PHR and working towards my SPHR. I am the lowest paid employee in the depth. We have a senior specialist and a general specialist both make more than I do. They have been employed longer with the company. What is your advice on this issue?

I’m in a rather peculiar situation. I have been in the HR field going on 4 years, I have over 11 years of management experience, I got my PHR last year and I recently graduated with my MBA with a concentration in HR this month. I am ready for a more challenging role. However, there doesn’t seem to be much available at my current company. However, I am going on 5 months pregnant with the expectation of being out in October. I feel like once I mentioned my pregnancy I was in a holding pattern.

Ok this is a weird question.

I have a puppy of 5 months old, he had diarrhoea since 3 days. I went to the vet and they gave him metronidazole, an antibiotic. He just had his first pill.

But: I have to go to a dinner for an hour or 3 this evening. I’m afraid to put him in his crate while he’s having diarrhoea.

Can I do that? Does the antibiotic work fast? Or should I let him out of his crate so he can go to the puppy pad if needed. I never let him out of his crate while home alone.

Hi! I’m an hr coordinator on a contract. They want to extend my contract, but I was hoping for a perm role, which was supposed to happen. But business changed and that’s not going to happen now. I really need a perm role for benefits, job security, etc. Would you stay with the hopes of a perm role within the next year? I really like this company, just not sure I should hold out, especially since I’ve been going above and beyond my job description. What would you do?

A VP wants our employees going through monthly soft skills training on widely divergent topics, mandatory attendance. I think it will feel like a good investment initially, but the employees are going to get overloaded with information and not have an opportunity to put what they're learning into practice leading to poor ROI. SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Since I didn’t finish undergrad, they’re asking for a copy of my high school diploma or transcript and that itself is going to be an absolute nightmare to get hold of. Guess I’m not really looking for a solution here, just venting.

We allow people to dress up for Halloween in our office, but after some interesting costume choices last year, our boss put me in charge of pre-approving everyone’s costume. I swear some of these people are trolling me with the ideas they are bringing in.
