Currently I am a Principal Process Engineer (under contract) at a large defense company. I am looking to go back to school and earn a Master's Degree in something, but it does not really matter what degree to me. My career goal is to be CTO (or Chief Engineering Officer) of a smaller cutting edge company or start-up. What degree should I be looking at (MBA or Engineering)? Online works best for me, but is that detrimental? Does university name matter?

I did an M.S. in engineering management to get the leadership / business / project management angle but still keep the focus on engineering. I did it completely online and did not consider university brand name, just an institution that was ABET accredited.

Everyone seems to go MBA these days, which might be fine. Personally, I was bored by every MBA program I looked into.

I have 1 year of experience of Process Engineer in a manufacturing Company.Could you please share insights of the comapny and hiring process. Thanks
