I would never advise leaving an associate level position for another associate level position unless you know there is no way you’ll get promoted internally otherwise. You want that promotion on your resume you want that pay bump to leverage a higher salary when you go to another agency etc. But if you already know you can’t get promoted at your current agency then you have to leave and get in writing they they will review you in 6 months. I know agencies are reluctant to do commit to this in writing but if you don’t get it then you could end up an associate for a lot longer than you bargained for.
Exactly this! A move from associate to senior associate internally is usually $10k. Look for a promotion at another agency and get the title and pay!
I think it just depends on what you’re willing to trade off. Is it a better fit for the longer term trajectory of your career? Can you negotiate while getting hired on that you’ll have a review for promotion six months in because you’re coming in with more experience?
I just made a lateral move for a $20k jump. Personally I don’t care too much about that meaning I’m promoted later, the salary and job description were what I wanted and I like the work. Just depends on your priorities!
Don't leave a place you love for a paycheck at a place you hate.
I once took a demotion for a 50K raise when I ignored all the red flags. I would be more concerned with the actual responsibilities, work hours, opportunity for learning/growth, and how you fit with your current team/new team over concerns about the funding.
Will it get you further into a sector/ niche/ brand you want for your future? Or would it just be mainly for the extra $$? (No judgement at all)
Is it a better opportunity with a better chance of making good work? And a better shot of a promotion?
Then sure.
The extra $10k a year won't mean much a few years down the road. Put your aim a little longer. Which place gives you the best chance to make work you can build a career and strong portfolio out of?

I left a junior job to take another junior job. It was absolutely the best decision I ever made, and I encourage people to do it if they think they will have better opportunities in the second agency.
I met some amazing mentors, picked up some hardware and now I'm working at an agency I've had my eye on for years.
