“I know you are using our employee assistance program to try to find a counselor, but I want to remind you that you are causing irreparable damage to all of your relationships by crying in the audit room”. It’s not like they held it over my head, but it was clear that they knew I was trying to get help but that they really didn’t give a shit about my feelings

No, it’s a transaction that goes directly to your health insurance. I don’t know why or how - given HIPAA privacy - they would send personal data to your employer. Maybe aggregated statistics

If you use a firm provided service to find one, yes, HR knows. (I used HealthAdvocate and HR even knew what services I was asking for and had no problem bringing that up to me…)

They brought it up? Like to use it against you?

Seriously....?!?

Wow, that’s messed up.

The insurance defense posts here blow my mind with how much some people work for so little pay. Kind of shocking some of these firms aren’t shamed more for treating their junior attorneys like dirt.

Hi all! I received an offer at an insurance defense firm but recently received a slightly better offer at a plaintiffs firm. Not sure which direction to go in. The defense firm has a crazy billable hours requirement and at the plaintiffs firm I will be managing a large docket of cases. Not sure which is more or less stressful.

If you work at a small agency in NYC, could you tell me what your monthly health insurance premiums are for families? I'm at a small agency in NYC and the health benefits for a family are almost prohibitively expensive, ~1,500/mo with a high deductible. Would love to know if we're competitive or not and if not, share that info with our HR and bosses.

I was offered partnership w/ equity at a small firm (15 attorneys, half are PI). Midsize market, not in a large city. I have 10 years of experience.

Pre-Partnership total comp was approx., $200,000 plus health insurance fully paid and 401k profit share contributions.

Partnership: salary went up by $50k w/ higher bonus potential. End of year fees are usually $8-900k/year. Half I originate, half I don’t. This year is high: already at $600k.

I just lateraled and feel like I’m totally floundering. I’ve been practicing 7 years and feel like I’m good at what I do…but everything I’ve done so far seems to be terrible 🤦🏼‍♀️ same practice area but the new firm is so busy - it’s hard to find time with a partner (esp. while still seeing my kid). Plus I am so ingrained from being micromanaged at old firm that I seem to be dropping the ball while I wait for approval. Ugh feel like a first year. Need to commiserate and know it’ll get better….

We are buying a house that will immediately be torn down. They currently have leased solar city solar panels on them so we want them removed. Anyone ever dealt with that? The seller is a hot mess so getting any lease documentation had been challenging. I don’t want to assume the lease with the house purchase. Curious if anyone with solar panels knows what the process is for getting them removed if you decided to.
