Except they do real things. Your expertise is slideware, BSing and sucking up to the executives for internal agreement
Without the inefficiencies and incompetence in those other industries, we wouldn't have jobs.
I've seen quite a few incompetent people in consulting.
Yeah I was gonna say. How I haven't been fired is beyond me
But I am making my company money, which is what companies ultimately care about. If I don't do a good job, I get rolled off my project. If that happens enough, I'm on the bench, and if I'm on the bench long enough, I'm fired. My fiancé is talking about people who do nothing all day. Other people have to do their work for them. They don't get fired or even in any kind of trouble. The company is not making any money off these people doing nothing
^ And lazy people too.
As a partner put it recently, professional services isn't corporate—it's a cut above.
There are way too many people across different industries who put in lot of hours way more then us and do real work. We are not special at all. My ex gf was doing her medicalrotations and she used to have 24 hour shifts straight but barely did I see her ranting. It's not everyone it's just your fiancé. Also if you think people in consulting don't complain/rant, just scroll through the fishbowl posts!
True EY1 and D1. I feel like there's less tolerance of it in consulting though
Yeah, that is true. I've jus been fortunate to work with good ppl I guess and it gave me a really good impression of the ppl Accenture hires. Everybody is very selfless and nobody is too good to do the grunt work regardless of level.
I've worked with a lot of smart type A ppl here...can't say the same for industry
EY2 not at all saying consultants don't rant. They complain more than most people - case in point, my post is a rant. Also please don't insult my fiancé...he was just complaining to me about his lazy coworkers after a bad day (he is in the medical field too). It made me mad that his coworkers are allowed to do a poor job with no repercussions, and I decided to post about it, not him.
I've made this speech to my husband so many times. He has to close the books every month, and he has to repeatedly ask people to do their jobs so he can finally do his. He's had to email, text, call, walk to this one coworker's desk multiple times before they complete their part (after promising during every point of contact). This happens almost every month, and there are no consequences for it. There's no way consulting would put up with this behavior.
Yep, my husband's company also never fires anyone for performance related issues, so as long as you don't sexually harass somebody or something of that nature, you can get away with doing nothing at work pretty much all year long with no consequences. It's crazy.
Keep in mind though you are making at least double what those industry jobs pay. Consulting is more demanding because the pay is at the top of any corporate career.
@d3 1) not true at the consultant level (their entry level is around 55k, it's probably 65-70k for us); 2) they're not even doing half the amount of work we do.
Well I know graduating MBA the consultants salaries were at least 25k higher than any MBA industry Job offered. Not sure about undergrad though.
Also for those fish bowlers on here at manager and above in strategy. Half of these people including myself stay in consulting and continue moving up not cause we want to but because we can't find an equivalent salary elsewhere in industry.
Easy to find product manager positions in tech that pay in the 3-400k range including stock
@A2 Not every smart person is type A, not not everyone who's either (or both) stays in consulting. It's just, their impact is often diluted when they go into industry.
