For Partners/MDs who have kids - do you feel you spent enough time with your kids during the years when you tried to get to where you are today? What do you wish you could have done differently? I have a reasonable shot at making partner but feel I have been missing too much of my child’s growth over the last few years. Seriously debating whether I should power through the next few years or exit to industry with better hours and less travel

Focus on quality, not quantity. Be present when you’re with them. Put your cell phone away and give them attention. Look for opportunities to spend time with them. I took mine on trips with me and made them educational and fun. We spend doing fun stuff on weekends. I would do day trips pre-covid to say good night.

Have boundaries. There are certain things I will not miss. It’s really on you, not the job not to do that.

Overall, we have significant financial resources and flexibility in our jobs. I frankly think it’s much easier for us to be there for our kids; you just have to make it a priority.

It ain’t a walk in the park, but that’s just raising kids in general.

I’m a manager because I choose my family first before my career. I may be a little older than my peers at level. However, I also have a happy spouse who also has a great manager level career and 4 kids who see me a lot and are able to engage with me. I’ll get to MD one day.

Decade in industry, which was still 50-60 hour weeks (people, like those attracted to this can’t just shut off their personality and drive) but travel went way down as did pressure and I made the soccer games, etc

I think partners actually have more flexibility than folks who own delivery. Don’t know why a partner “needs” to work more than 50 hour weeks if you’re using your time effectively and being ok not taking on work that’s never going to turn into revenue.

But an SM doesn’t have that luxury. My kids will be grown up and gone by the time I make partner.

Why the heck do Recruiters and Hiring managers do such a poor job keeping applicants informed to the status. I had my time wasted with an opportunity for a fortune 100 position for 3 1/2 months. Phone Screens, Zoom Interview with hiring manager, Face to face with hiring manager. (Then asked for professional references) , impromptu Zoom meet with other leader who was completely disengaged. Then boom... six weeks of silence vague texts from hiring manager they were still going thru the process..

Hi all,

I interviewed with capgemini for SAP ABAP role and my YOE is 4 years. Just 2 hours after my interview, I got a call from someone at Capgemini saying that I am selected.
They just asked my notice period and current location.I asked them, what is the next round going to be and they said that it is going to be salary discussion. But till now, no one has reached out to me.
Does it mean they got another candidate for same job?
If they get back to me, how much should I ask?
Current - 9.9

Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.

Recent exp hire in consulting and would love some input. Pre hire was promised by leadership that the firm was doing lots of interesting strategy work in a niche, cutting edge but rapidly growing field. However, after a bunch of internal networking this does not appear to be the case and I'm getting creeping doubts about whether anyone here even understands the space.
