For the KPMG folks, if we are rolling over funds from 401k to IRA (traditional and/or Roth) is there a way to request separate checks for the taxable vs. non-taxable amounts? I don’t want to have any previously taxed amounts in my traditional IRA. I want to roll that portion over to the Roth.

I would think they would do that automatically

The 401k company.

Call ML for sure to get the process laid out, but you absolutely can roll trad 401k to trad IRA and Roth 401k to Roth IRA

like

No, you're going to get hit by pro rata rules

Even so I think they should be able to put the Roth/IPRR into Roth IRA and Traditional/Employer match into traditional IRA.

I left recently, and yes it is separate. Not even sure if it's possible to get one check. You can't move traditional 401k directly into Roth IRA (or move Roth 401k into trad IRA). My spouse had this occur on accident and they rejected the check; they had to reissue the check and send to the correct IRA.

I rolled the trad 401k into my trad IRA and the Roth 401k into my Roth IRA.

I then subsequently moved the trad IRA to my Roth IRA, which I'll be taxed on. This part is up to you though. You could leave this portion in the trad IRA if you prefer.

I think I’ll call Ml. When I do it online they send one check…I was testing small amounts and it would be one check with combined taxable and non taxable amounts
