Rising Star
This was a power move on his part. Do not acknowledge him or the statement. If he brings it up again, cut him off politely and tell him that “your thoughts on me are not relevant to this conversation. If you want personal feelings to be taken into account, we should adjourn so I can discuss our relationship with your company if we want to be involved with them if you are involved.” and move back to business at hand.
You are a customer now, show him that, never let anyone undermine you, next time don't sit idle just cut him off politely in a professional manner. In these cases advise him to not show this behaviour again, this is not tolerable. And don't use the familiarity to utter bullshit, give an indirect warning that it can affect the business and he will be responsible for it. Hope that helps, never give in to bullying
Privately.
You should have said “no thanks to you” and pulled the contract. Power moves only 😏
Call him out.
I wouldn’t ask if a colleague could manage this supplier instead.
Who cares what his opinion is, you’re there and he’s not so who won in the end?
Probably better to just leave it. If you have to work closely in the future, and he does it again in the future you can say something like "I could say the same for you as my ex-manager, and look at us now. We've both come a long way"
