People leave every day and the firm moves on. Life is short, do whats best for you.
First thing they’re gonna do is replace you with someone else. Everybody is dispensable in big 4, your just another number. The connections you made that are genuine will be maintained throughout your career and if anyone falls out with you because you left they were never really on your side. Take some time over the break to make sure you really want to leave and try to at least have something lined up. With all the layoffs going on, I’ve seen many colleagues struggle to get jobs in this market, so you want to make sure you’ll be financially stable enough to maintain being off work for a while.
If your 100% sure about leaving, connect with your direct managers on a call face to face, let them know you want to go a different direction in your career and thank them for their time and let them know your willing to help with your off boarding. Leaving big 4 is not easy, but I’ve been there and I know that fear. As long as you leave on a respectful and appreciative manner, you should be fine. Good luck!
Just left recently and felt some sort of passive aggressiveness from teams but oh well I don’t have to worry about busy season anymore
Manager here, actually put in my notice recently and next week would be my last week. I know quite a few people who left the firm in Nov or about to leave in Dec. It’s not worth it to stick it out. Partners have seen so many people come and go, you don’t need to be worried about burning bridges.
Better before than during busy season. People remember busy seasons more than anything else.
Three of my former co-workers just quit at S2 in the last two weeks. I would say is becoming more common.
I say this with love and respect: You’re a staff. You’ll be forgotten about and replaced expeditiously. You’ll put in your two weeks, have your “transition” meetings with your manager & interim replacement for all your jobs, and that’ll be it.
They’ll definitely pressure you to stay beyond your 2 weeks. HOLD. FIRM. I promise you your team won’t collapse and, again, they’ll move on in short time.
