It all starts with the culture of the employer. It is a benefit you shouldn't need to beg to use it. It is the managements place to adjust the schedule. For the holidays I posted 2 groups for the major/minor holidays for 3 years out. They would trade with each other for those dates they were going to be assigned the holiday. Ask your coworkers that guilt you to give up their medical insurance? After all why should they get their benefits.
Made to feel guilty? NEVER! Tried to be made to feel guilty; often!
What did I do? I laughed at their face and told them that they made Vacation Time "use it or lose it" and it was near the end of the year (I am old and refuse to call it pto) .
Muffer fluffers want it both ways. I also took the opportunity to tell them that it wouldn't be a problem if they weren't understaffed.
They refused to let us carry even 1 day into the next calendar year, refused to buy back any unused time and still wanted to have micromanagement control over when we use our earned vacation time?
No job is worth that level of humiliation.
