The health insurance at PwC is absolutely abysmal. That's all I can tell you. I don't know what the options are at the other 3 firms.

like

KPMG1, from my research tech companies have the best plans. They literally have zero deductible plans for less than a $100 per pay period. Big4 in comparison is way worse.

like

Yup makes sense. I’m younger and have HDHP which (hopefully) will grow large enough to take care of expenses later in life. But if you don’t have enough of an HSA built up + higher expenses with kids etc, prob make sense to go full coverage.

It’s all relative. If you want a lower deductible, you pay much higher pay period costs. I prefer to pay for healthcare when needed vs paying premiums when I could be healthy all year and the premiums become wasted money.

On PwC’s staff and kid plan, you basically make money if you’re not sick.

$87 per pay period = $2,088 per year
$1,400 firm contribution to HSA = net cost $688
$5,900 addtl HSA cont. tax savings @ 15% = ($885)

Net (benefit)/cost = ($197)

Now if you go with a lower deductible plan, you could pay $3,000 or more per year in premiums ($125 per pay period) plus any copays/deductible/etc.

Also, PwC has the EHE program which gives you a significantly more comprehensive physical exam and any sick appointments scheduled through EHE after a physical is completed are FREE for you and family members! They also provide all vaccinations needed for international travel for free too. Major benefit that many people miss!

I’ve found the plan discounts for specialists to be extremely reasonable as well.

like

Hmm, I haven’t heard of the EHE program before. If the sick appointments are truly free to me and my kid even on a HDP, PWC may actually win.

I pay like $38 month on a HDHP, $5K deductible, $500 HSA contribution I think (I pay the remainder).

like

Total average out of pocket healthcare expenses over last 3 years OP?

Need more info. Single, married, family?

Narrow it down. Single, Family or Self & Spouse. We have high, medium and low deductible plan and price varies as does firm contribution depending on these factors.

Self and one kid, no spouse

like

HDP self and child $87 a period, firm contribution to HSA $1,400, deductible is $7,100.

I guess PWC will be out, I hate UHC. Had terrible experience with them in the past.

Is Aetna offered by any of the firms? IMHO, it’s the best insurance along with a BCBS.

Kpmg has a high deductible plan with only a 1600 deductible but the premiums are higher and the coverage once you meet your deductible isn't as good

Yes. Kpmg

It’s only the HDHP, correct? No Aetna with 80/20 or 90/10?

Honestly I pay nothing for health insurance. I would like a better HSA contribution and dental premiums reduced. Otherwise it’s pretty hood

It’s because you don’t need to see specialists, as they are not covered at all under HD plans. Not gonna work for me with a 3 year old kid.

like

Yeha. But I make like 3K yearly in just HSA interest

Well capital appreciation is a better term I guess. I’ve been making like 15% a year on my HSA since I’ve joined the firm (5+ years).

like

Verdict, I did some quick math and even if you account for the HSA employer contributions and tax savings, the only difference between a HDP and a PPO 80/20 is a $100. IMHO, it’s better to have a higher coverage insurance.

@OP are you getting the same offers from all big 4? It doesn't seem like the health insurance difference is enough to be a deal breaker

It is for me 🤷🏻‍♀️
