Ha. I am so over "I don't have motivation!" This only means that you don't want it... and we can't make you want it.
When you want something, you go and get it!
Find the reason behind WHY you need your CPA. Money? Career? Make your parents proud? Don't be the last one of your friends without it? Once you know your "why" you'll make it happen.
Wake up early and study. Set time aside just for studying. Go to a library if you can't focus at home. Make it your life priority #1 and you will pass.
Also... look around the office!? If they can do it, so can you.
@Crowe Horwath 1- not all of us have the luxury of making it our #1 priority in life, and sometimes people lose motivation when they’ve been taking the exam for a while and missing by a point or two, but thank you for the encouragement, "ha!"
Crowe 1, give it a rest. The CPA is hard to balance with full time work. I had to sit it as an executive director whilst trying to build a new practice- it was hell. My main tips- make sure your family/friends are supportive. You’re not going to see much of them on evenings/weekends. Similarly, make sure your team at work are supportive- if you’re working 70-hour weeks in the build up to an exam, it’s not going to go well. Lastly, give yourself mini goals/rewards- eg if I complete 100 MCQs, I can do XYZ. Good luck!
My motivation was... I cannot lose another summer to the CPA exam. Gosh, I gave up two summers to pass and the thought of spending another summer indoors to study made me sick to my stomach.
Also, I started to get embarrassed. Other people were passing with ease and I wasn’t.
Good luck!
The feeling when you finish all your exams is amazing. Keep thinking of that.
OP... fast to judge right? Took me over 2 years to pass... failed FAR 3 times with scores over 70... worked full time and I'm the mother of two toddlers.
The only way it happened was by shifting priorities. I know how hard it is... I wasn't trying to talk down to you, I meant it when I said you must find your own motivation.
With Crowe 1. Woke up and took MC questions before getting in the shower. Skipped lunch and took MC questions. Got home and took MC questions. Took one night off a week to stay sane. If you want it. Work for it. If you don’t. Take another exam or don’t sweat it
What do you want 10 years from now? Where do you have to be in 5 years to get there? Where do you have to be in 2 years to get to your 5 year mark? How about this year? What do you have to do this week/ today to get to where you need to be by the end of this year? If it’s not the cpa, don’t take it
Study on the commute and during internal mandatory meetings
Hard? I won’t disagree. I took mine during working full time. Motivation? you gotta want it as much as you want to breathe
