Hi everyone! Just looking for some insight. I’m about 4 years into HR, have my bachelors. I’ve been toying around with the idea of getting my masters in something relating to compliance/labor law and that side of HR. Shrm certification is also on my list. If anyone has some advice on what to get a masters in specifically, I’d be open to suggestions! I’m trying to find something that would be worth my while and would give me a step up. Thanks!

If you want a masters in HR leadership, I know the Purdue Online program is highly touted. SEO always drags it to the top but there's a reason: program provides the best intel.

Getting your certification or master's will accelerate your growth in your industry. I will check with your company to see if they have any tuition reimbursement that you can take advantage of it.

I would go for something data-related personally, like analytics or data science, that could be cool since it elevates your current skillset. I think leadership/entrepreneurship would be a cool one too but not sure if your org would be cool with that?

This is something I’ve been thinking about actually as well. I’m kind of on the fence. I love compliance/legal HR but I’m already doing a lot of systems duties and enjoy that too. Plus I know HRIS is a good place to be money wise right now

I work for startup tech co. that was recently integrated with a larger similar employer. For 5 years I’ve been a contract 1099 employee salary range about $30k annually. My employer would like to offer me a managerial position yet still a 1099, however would like to offer compensation/bonuses to weigh out the fact that they are not providing any health ins, benefits or tax garnishments. I have zero tax write offs as a 1099 just for reference. What salary range should I be asking for?

Is anyone familiar with non-profit HR? I sit on a non-profit board and lend my HR expertise to them. Our executive director is leaving and other board members want to pay a “leaving bonus” as a thank you for her hard work and say it’s common in non-profit realm. I experienced an agency I am a contractor with that informed me I was not eligible for medical insurance until after 30 days but actually I was eligible for since day 1. I had a colleague hired from that agency as well as a contractor who told her the same thing and so I informed her otherwise. She fought tooth and nail for them to coincides she at least was ablevto get hers.

So I’ve always had a rough time trying to find what role titles I would be a good fit to apply to given that my career growth has been so peculiar (HR assistant at hotel, Operations Manager at hotel, seller support at Amazon, customer experience coordinator at an IT company, talent acquisition specialist at a health org)
In those roles I normally took more in my plate than the typical role requires (hr functions, data analysis, etc)
With 6-7 years if exp what role should I look?

I’m regularly told that they’re exceeding expectations but then they get reviews that say they’re meeting expectations on a team full of people that do way less than they do? I’ve actually been told that if there was something between meets and exceeds…I’d get that…but there not, so I get the same average performer raise, recognition, etc.

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?

I have been working in HR for 1 year now, specifically in recruiting. I am currently an in-house recruiter for a company. There is a large turnover for the position I hire for, the candidates are low quality as the position I hire for does not call for many specific skills or hard-to-obtain skills.
What sort of requirements typically need to be met to move into a different part of HR? I will likely have to find another company as the only positions above me in my company are taken by people who are very unlikely to leave in the coming 4-5 years.
