Hi Friends - I’m looking for a bit of advice and I guess a mini-rant post. To start, haven’t been officially diagnosed with ADHD but after 5 years of executive disfunction and relying on pure willpower to perform (considered a high performer), I finally filled out a psychiatry intake form looking for help. It’ll be a while till my first appointment and I know medicine might not work immediately - I’m struggling bad at work (overpromising and sacrificing health to deliver). Any tips to help? 🙁

Stop over promising. Gotta say no sometimes. I have no idea how to do fhat though and do the same thing. In therapy for literally everything. Also very high performer (objectively too and yet am a disaster).

Look into behavioral interventions and hacks for ADHD - or more specifically for what your specific issues are…. For example: research ‘ways to deal with time blindness for neurodivergent people’ or ‘how to cope with RSD (this is most likely tied to why you over promise’ and start introducing these ‘hacks’ into your life one at a time. It takes practice and your docs will help with tweaking this - but you can get some relief and sense of control back by actively pursuing solutions before you even go to your appt. Know that help is on the way, it will take some hard work and some Dee self reflection but you’re going to get through this! DM if you’d like to connect further.

Get diagnosed first then see what the doc says. In meantime set realistic goals for yourself at work - double your time estimates to complete a task. Its almost a universal rule that projects take 2x the time initially scoped

Even with a diagnosis and medicine, your problems may not otherwise be solved.

I’ve been having insomnia lately (around 1 month). Tried the usual, lighter dinners, no caffeine etc. with no improvement…. Have been taking Focalin for +\- 8 months. I‘m mindful of timing as well to not interfere with sleep my schedule. Now I wonder if switching to Vyvanse or something else might help.

Girlfriend has very obvious high functioning anxiety and body image issues that she admits but thinks she doesn’t need therapy or medication and that reading self-help books will help her. First day of 30mg vyvanse today. Had a rush of energy and hyperfocus (too much so) about 2-4 hours in, but had a complete crash 5hrs after taking the pill (just a wave of fatigue, felt very good after a quick 15min nap actually) and not sure if it had any effect after. Is this normal? Should I stick it out for a few days or is this a big sign that I’m not on the right meds/dose? Nervous to keep trialling this during the workday since a midday crash is not ideal. Appreciate any advice!
