I don't think you need b school. See if your firm offer a jr analyst program. It's like being a "year 0" analyst, good for transition candidates. Network like crazy and read some books on valuations. Hit up some junior IB people in your corp. directory and ask for help.
If you have an MBA you'll probably have to take a few steps back, maybe be an analyst if you have to be. But its definitely possible!

Network, tell a cohesive story, demonstrate knowledge, get lucky. "Laterals" are typically hired on as hoc basis so find out where there are headcount needs through HR.
Depending on your current level and years of experience you will have to make a lateral or 1 step downward move but a lot will hinge upon your network..If you have alumni from your business school in Investment Banking, I would recommend starting there
