I did my research on therapist in the area I lived in. You can search on this website called psychology today and they have bios and what their speciality areas are.
Thought about it for years. Starting was the hardest part- it gets easier once you make your first appointment and go for it
Oh I thought about it for years before I actually made the first appointment
I did a lot of research on different therapists. I had a general idea of what I was looking for (female, younger). It took a few sessions for them to get enough background on me
Probably a year. Finally I just pulled the trigger. I was not looking for a traditional therapist. I found one that is so real that it’s painful sometimes but I know it will benefit me more in the future. Everyone is in a different place. Do your research and interview. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions - especially if they’ve worked on themselves and where they are in their journey. It’s important to know if a therapist has done or is doing their own work. If they aren’t or haven’t, then that’s a huge red flag.
That’s where I would start.
If someone is with PwC you can look at the behavioral health resources online and in private. You can even start with a call which I recommend doing as soon as you can.
I started with the employee assistance program(EAP) because of the five free sessions because I was dealing with difficult experience in my family. I did research online and found a therapist I thought would be a good fit. After the five sessions though EAP, I kept same therapist but started using my insurance. It's almost being a year and therapy has been a great help!
Shop around! I called all of them and said “I’m in crisis. I need help making a life decision. I don’t want to spend 3 months on my mother or ‘how does that make you feel?’” I got a super smart, super action oriented therapist. 6 sessions. She helped me through a tough time
Wow you people are great. Thank you so much! I plan to report back.
