This is an odd post. The great exits in consulting don’t come from working 2 years and having “Deloitte” (or any other firm) on your resume. The great exits come from clients and people you get exposure to through consulting. People that value your hard work and expertise and are willing to pay for it. Try that angle, if it isn’t there stay in consulting a bit longer until it is.
Agree with C1 but additionally, the second half of the year is typically a hard time to find a new job (saying this as an ex recruiter). You’re generally better off seeking employment in the Spring. Also, update your LinkedIn to provide more detail about what you have done and be less generic so that recruiters can find you in searches. You also need to really, really take a look at your resume. When you apply for a job, your resume is 1/300+ (that’s on the low end) for one job posting. Recruiters are never going through each resume, they’re searching by keywords, so you better be smart. The multiple resumes thing is no joke. You should definitely not lie, but make sure that you are using the appropriate wording that mirrors the job description if you’re actually a fit for the job. Recruiters are not experts in what they recruit for, and generally will not be able to infer that your skills could be a fit. Be explicit. They have KPIs to reach also. And finally, ask your friends / family friends to refer you for jobs in their organizations. Referrals are by far the best way in. And one more thing... Deloitte entry level pay is far higher than anything I had previously seen. You’ll be hard pressed to find something with similar perks for only 2 years experience. But, if it’s more important for you to be home and in a job you like more, it may not be such a bad thing! Best of luck!
