I'm 34 and I wish I owned a house by now and that my debts were paid off... so tbh having a car is the only sense of accomplishment I feel. Also, I love driving so this article doesn't relate to me.
I'm waiting to buy a car for once I'm done with debts too. And sure, if there's evidence that driving more leads to unhappiness, I'll consider it a positive that I don't have a car yet haha.
Not needing a car is solidly 20% of what keeps me in Manhattan
I don’t live in an area where this is a viable option. I will say though that cars are a huge headache. You either buy something old and cheap and have to dump money into it, or buy something shiny and new and have a monthly payment on it. There is a lot in between, but I can say that car ownership sucks, driving sucks because of the other crazies on the road.
I wish I had the option. Sadly I live in an area where not having a car would mean no transportation. There is not great public transit here. So until then I buy beaters with heaters in cash.
I actually did this as well because I had pretty decent car that got me from point A to point B so it felt like buying a new car wasn't a priority.
