As long as you haven't signed anything, it is not too late to negotiate. I have almost always negotiated a higher salary than the initial offer. I say always ask for more.
When you ask for more, do you go with a range - for example 10% more?
Read “Never Split The Difference”. “No” is just the beginning of a conversation. I’m always amazed by lawyers I talk to that just accept that whatever a firm has offered is sufficient because it’s “standard”.
Echoing M1, I never accept the first offer unless it is exactly what I asked for.
I find companies are most static on base comp and sometimes title. Start date and bonus are easiest to negotiate, in my experience. That said, I probably negotiate my base comp the most as bonusing is never really guaranteed, so I need my baseline to make sense even absent a bonus — especially if you’re going in-house.
