I’m at a competitor and yet I strongly respect this firm.
I often see them on deals and they are good at what they do. And despite being on opposing side we have constructive relationships.
I have had post deal drinks with some of them and they are nice and they liked their culture.
What’s AlixPartners? Never heard of them
Heard they sell propane and propane accessories…or something
They are elite for PE and RX work. Like elite of the elite.
Mom said I’m elite
Whoever told you that was salty they didn’t get hired lol
Were there any details behind "culture is abysmal"?
My partner worked for them. He was paid well, had cool travel opportunities, felt invested in by partners, was promoted quickly…he just didn’t want to do PE or turnaround work after MBA. Only good things to say as a spouse.
I’m happy. They make it hard to complain when you’re getting well compensated and doing interesting work serving Boards/CEO/C-Suite. Poor WLB is expected at any top consulting firm. Sometimes the WLB is a sprint, and sometimes it’s a jog. Client services is not an easy job. The culture? It’s dependent on service line/industry. I like the people I work with and admire my colleagues’ capabilities.
Are you in restructuring? there is some sort of investment banking culture going on in that service line, and they have to put on a serious face often due to the nature of the work. So that might be “awful” and takes time to get used to (if you even want to try), but I think ppl still genuinely care about you as a human there.
I enjoy working at this awful firm

Where'd you hear that
Interviewer prior to receiving offer - obviously jarring to hear
Awful on what dimension? They are very respected in the market. I’ve heard more than a few grumblings about WLB though
I’m sad to read that someone in the firm who is interviewing you actually said something like that. Honestly the culture here is mostly really supportive and open. I’ve been in the firm for 10 years and have worked at other firms (A&M, Deloitte) and I can genuinely say it’s the best culturally in my experience. The personality testing does help us filters out most of the a-holes. Not always, but mostly. When I was at A&M I felt like most of the people were raging a-holes.
I am the best looking guy at this awful firm, and a delight to work with. I enjoy much of what we do and would recommend it to anyone looking to help rich people get richer
Our name is Robert Paulson
Please provide your source C. Thank you.
You accepted the offer at AlixPartners?
Half step below T2 maybe? If A&M is the big scary “disruptor” that people are starting to say broke into and is maybe even surpassing T2, then AP is kinda riding behind on the coattails. I think they do really good work and have strong compensation but have had underwhelming feedback on WLB, culture, and upward mobility
Latter half of your comment is what I was hearing rumblings of when mentioned as “awful”
Good to know
Awesome firm. There are always some detractors

Culture is cutthroat but top notch quality
My experience is 100% different from what my colleagues have said above. I wouldn’t consider this firm T2 at all. It’s more like Guidehouse at a slightly higher comp point.
The level of lies reached beyond believable with AP13. False.
OP - reach out back to the manager and ask for clarification. That’s your best bet to uncover what they meant. I’m also sure that many here would be willing to talk candidly on our experiences.
Like most places, your experience is going to depend on your practice area, people and projects you work on.
Hi all! Looking to switch companies. Can anyone provide an employee referral or recruiter poc at AlixPartners please.
Hey OP, can I dm you to ask about your interview experience?
Hi! Tried DM’ing. Have quasi similar travel card and could use your insight.
Lower than T2 in terms of caliber of work and caliber of people, but it’s always been this way. You don’t exactly have people clamoring to help PE firms flip waste management companies and mobile home parks.
