Yeah any kind of money is welcomed more than a party to spend more time with coworkers. Not that I don’t like them, but we will be spending 70+ hours per week together in the 3 months following the party. Honestly I’m good
This is the only response I’ve seen against it that doesn’t come off as antisocial.
$500 is a lot haha
How dumb EY12 !
Money can be given at any time. Holiday parties are once a year. Surely you can clear your schedule for 4 hrs out of an entire year?

I agree, I would rather get a $25 target gift card instead of these parties/happy hours/team dinners
Man people will complain about ANYTHING.
I Wouldn’t, the holiday parties are (mostly) fire.
Sad
ITT: people who are on shitty clients and anti social people.
I would also prefer a small bonus instead of the party
Yep
In smaller offices, say up to 200 or so people, the holiday parties are intimate and can be really fun. I have been to some fantastic parties during my career.
When offices get larger, the whole dynamic changes. I have been to holidays parties for an office of 1,500 people plus guests. Those were very different (probabaly 2,000 pr more people were there). I think they were fun (sometimes more fun for the guests) but not the same as the smaller gatherings.
When the office is tight and close knit, the party is far better.
I do know from being in charge of parties at times that its rarely possible to please everyone. I think most offices do their best to make as many people happy as possible. Sadly it can be a thankless job to organize a party.
What happens once you become a Partner? They change your software or something?
Have you thought about the economics of the bonus vs a company wide party? Would you take $30 instead of a party? Because that’s the cost, not $500
I’d rather have a party, it’s a nice party, Not everyone is fortunate enough to go to galas And balls their entire life
I've been with the firm 5 years and never attended a Christmas party. I'm an extreme introvert and only socialize when I absolutely have to. If I go I'd be more worried about who to socialize with and what to say or not say instead of having fun. Plus I dont drink at all so yea...
Introvert here, and work on a small team. So I really don’t know that many people in our 500+ person office. I try to be social, but it’s just too much effort at a large party.
I like the holiday parties when you can bring your significant other and/or it's during working hours. If it's outside of working hours AND I can't bring my spouse, I'm really not that into it. It's just work cutting into my family time even more than it already does.
Oh after hours and no spouse...no way. Give us a nice (like Capital Grille lunch) with afternoon off, no spouse would be a-okay.
Ummmm if you think the firm is spending anywhere CLOSE to $500 per person for a holiday party, I have a bridge to sell you...
That was funny... you must be the center of attention at your holiday party with that comedic gold...
I feel like the response to this is based on market. If your holiday party is wack then makes sense. The NY Holiday party is fun as hell and very good networking. And if one market gets it, I’m sure there needs to be uniformity as other markets would just ask for money too.
Side note: last year our group got both money and the holiday party so 🤷♂️
“Fun as hell” has different meaning to different people lol
Last year was at a client out of the state, this year issuing the day after the party. Also, why is this party so important anyways?
I prefer Friday to Saturday, but doesn’t really make a big difference to me. I’m not a huge drinker. I just enjoy the socializing and a glass of wine or two. I stopped “pregaming” a long time ago.
I would argue a small minority of extreme introverts are the only ones who don’t like Christmas parties. Most people I work with love them.
@D1 That’s understandable.
That sounds like a personal problem. A lot of people like the opportunity to dress up, mingle, get drunk on the firm etc. Sucks to suck but I was on a a 10/31 two years in a row and had to miss it but I wouldn’t wish others miss it because I can’t go.
*whole. Oops.
The parties are generally good and worth the time in B4.
Absolutely a bonus. In this world And profession money is the only thing. I would have taken whatever they spent per person on discover even instead of that. Not saying discover was a bad time I had a blast and met my girlfriend there but still. Money plays.
Kinda walked into that one. Touché.
Absolutely a party! For those who say money is the only thing no way! Connections, seeing friends and colleagues that you don’t see in the office is great. The last 3 parties at EY have been great (not amazing) but I would still not changed them for the money. Maybe try and make some friends? Step out of your comfort zone? Lol
