I started my career in Exec Comp consulting at a Mercer/Aon/WTW. It’s definitely more analytical and finance-oriented.
Mercer, Deloitte, a few others do this
Korn Ferry does this well. They bought the hay group and were the leaders in comp.
The environment at KF has been very difficult. Lack of good leadership, and the business won't invest in its people or automation. Might be ok for someone looking to get started but not stay for the long term....
The 'big' firms would be Mercer and WTW. Good place to start your career and get exposure for sure.
There are also a number of boutiques. Assuming you join a well regarded boutique, your experience would likely be better.
Generally in exec comp consulting you advise senior management or the board so you get good exposure. It will be numbers/finance in combination with HR related items for sure.
