Run everyday.
Drink lots of water.
Remember, all the pushing and yelling is to get you ready for the fleet and never personal.
It’s Coast Guard so… it won’t be too hard.
Thanks! Is it really easier for the Coast Guard?
Good for you for actually considering this and doing what you can to protect and prepare yourself mentally. Many people aren't aware that they need to do this. I recently saw this great article from Psychology Today that discusses some ideas for preparing yourself mentally for bootcamp. Good luck to you! https://www.psychologytoday.com/intl/blog/alpha-blog-charlie/202209/psychological-preparation-for-military-boot-camp-10-tips
Thanks so much for sharing. I will definitely take some time to read through the article. I appreciate your well wishes too!
Drink lots of water , be prepared to swim and run a little bit before you ship out, remember why you’re there and have that from day one to the last and you will be fine good luck !
Thanks so much - really appreciate the advice!
I must say that preparing your mental state for Coast Guard boot camp is just as important as staying physically fit. Before I entered boot camp, I did some research on the experience and tried to understand what I was getting myself into. I also reached out to friends who had gone through the process, to hear their advice and gain some insight on how to best prepare. This helped to ease my anxiety and set realistic expectations. Best of luck!
Good you are preparing yourself rather than getting “shocked”. All the yelling and orders barking are just to test your responses under pressure. The MTI or Drill Instructions have to erase any civilian attitude and build up your military self… nothing personal as someone mentioned before.
As with any boot camp, you want to make yourself as unremarkable as possible to the instructors, but as helpful as you can be to your fellow trainees.
Run, workout, drink plenty of water.
Learn how to make hospital corners, do your research on what your particular entry school does. My experience in the air force had different articles of clothing being folded in different ways. Shorten the learning curve while you can.
Aggregating this learning will significantly reduce the mental stress.
At the end of the day, recognize the whole ordeal as a mental reprogramming. They will want to change how you eat, sleep, and think as a member of thier organization.
