Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar - Super corny but really funny and engaging. Another awesome one that I have read the last 3 years is There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom also by Louis Sachar.

I agree, The kids always love “there’s a boy in the girls bathroom “. I love to start the year with Wonder. Lots to discuss in that book. I also enjoy Hatchet- all about survival and really great writing techniques to point out when teaching writing

We read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. It is funny and the kids seem to relax while listening. I want to try Hatchet - it sounds good!

Anyone get J&J?
After a year apart my older sisters are finally coming to see me!! It was a last minute thing (they’re stopping in to see me then take me to my parents for Father’s Day). I didn’t get vaccinated yet because I was going through the process of freezing my eggs.

How are the side effects? I’m 25 for reference. I want to get the vax in one shot but don’t want to be sick for my sister visit!

I also had covid previously (like in the beginning). Not sure if that’s important or not.

Help! Pursue a great career VS my passion?

For context: I’ve been a startup founder and ran a small fitness studio (my passion). I had to close them down due to COVID. Then I got a job at a local Accelerator to pay my bills.

Workload & company culture wasn’t a fit, so I quit. I have a dilemma whether to join a global accelerator (huge pay and learning potential) or go back to my fitness biz. I’ve yet to figure out my longterm goals, but I really enjoy doing both! Pls share your thoughts 🙏🏼

I was recently offered a Zoom interview. The school had 10 interview slots for me to choose from. Three were one day this week and the rest are next week. I chose the first time slot available. Should I have waited until one of the last slots so I was fresher on their mind when choosing a candidate? I am just sitting here stressing out until I here something. Also, do interviewers still appreciate a hand written thank you for the interview?

Is getting results by Sunday night too optimistic if I get tested on Saturday? I know some places are quick, but I worry the weekend might slow them down

Let’s hear your stories. What has been successful for you so far this year and has brought a smile to your face? What has been the biggest challenge with DL, hybrid, face to face, or teaching/ life in general?

What reading curriculum does your district use?

Hey 4th Grade teachers! What are some of the online tools/platforms you used during distance learning that you really liked? We use Schoology as the main platform in our district. I also used Flipgrid and ClassDojo but I heard ClassKick was better. Anyone use this before?

I'm almost done with my master's and right now we are discussing the knowledge gap that happens in 4th grade with our lower-class students. They know or have the skills for how to read (for the most part) but seem not to be able to comprehend what they are reading due to the fact that they don't have background knowledge like their upper-class peers - which is due to life experiences. Have you noticed this in your classes? I have but didn't realize why it was so hard to catch them up.

Even though life/ teaching isn’t normal right now- we still need to provide as much “normality “ for our students as possible. What is the funniest thing that has happened while teaching during hybrid or DL ? Make us smile. 😊
