My thought whenever looking at what it takes to switch roles is to target a more junior role to build up your direct experience. It doesn’t really matter how qualified you feel as much as it matters whether the company views you as being qualified enough. Keep in mind that a jPMM is not an entry level role - at least not in medium to large organizations.
You may have more luck in less attractive industries - especially those who don’t put as much weight on CX. Just look at the company website - if they’re focusing on how good their products/innovation/manufacturing is and not on the customer problem they’re solving, your skill set would be impactful, but be prepared for the company to have no idea what you’re talking about (my last role was with a company who’s entire brand was based on being good at manufacturing stuff which was great in their home market where they were a top 3 player in their key markets - trying to explain that we couldn’t follow that path in the US market where the company was unknown and the products were seen as being homogenous across the market was a losing battle from the start. I lasted less than a year before finding something better
If you want to make a transition, you gotta be ok with taking a step back to take more steps forward.
Thank you both. I wouldn’t mind taking an Associate / Junior role but the pay looks like it would be a $25-35k decrease, so that’s been my biggest battle when applying places.
