I'm interviewing for a business development role and even though the hiring manager explained the bonus format to me (how it's tied to the sales targets), I feel that I'm not clear on the compensation structure. Now I have to get back to them regarding my expected salary. Could anyone explain how compensation works in BD and sales role. Do you have a fixed component? Is it just the bonus that is dependent on the targets? How can I figure out what kind of bonus I can expect?

Does anyone know if this is normal? I joined a vault 100 firm in September last year. The firm put me on tier 7. In January I had the associate review and everything was normal. After a couple of weeks, I got the call from the hiring partner telling my bonus and new salary (because of the firm-wide salary increase). I realized I still get paid as a 7 year associate. The partner said because I joined the firm later in the year, it’s normal not to advance in the next year. Is it? Thanks!
