I’m looking for recommendations on how to break into the HRIS field.

I have 5 years of experience in Recruiting, both in-house and agency. I’ve recently received a neurodivergent diagnosis that’s encouraging me to get into a less people facing role. I’m open to interpersonal work, but ideally not looking for a role with 100% people interaction. Does this feel suitable to HRIS?

Most of my background is HR-related which led me down this path. Any advice on breaking into the field? Pros? Cons?

Your resume and you would need to highlight any end-user experience with specific HR systems for entry-level HRIS analyst roles. The job market is a bit tough right now as many employers want someone who already has 1-2 years of actual configuration experience and may not have the budget to provide formal training (e.x. Workday as a system is notorious for formal training).

Your best bet would be to go for the entry-level HRIS roles that advertise provided training to get up-to-speed, accepts end-user experience with no configuration experience, or roles from companies whose bread and butter is consulting/application management services (AMS) dependent on training people on the applicable system.

Lots of HRIS analyst roles include working tickets/cases at tiers 1 to 3, which can include HR personnel and employees. Not sure if this counts as people interaction, but if you're not talking to people face-to-face or over a call you're going to be dealing with them via messaging on cases/Teams.

I'm two thirds through the PMA Core Certification, and the info is great but the tests are a joke. They need to contract with an educator that specializes in testing and assessment to come in and develop exams that actually measure if you know the material. The bad test design devalues the certification. Not to zero, but I definitely will not be proud to have earned it. It just means I had $1300 and sat through 15 hours of video lectures.

I'm entering my final year of law school but am going part time since I work full time as a paralegal. I have been a paralegal for more 10+ years and I want to open my own firm after I pass the bar.

I've worked at a lot of different size firms including a startup with a few attorneys and I was able to help with a lot of the ground work with getting the practice management system in place and still do some of that now at my current firm. Has anyone done this right out of law school? Any advice?

Career site development looking into Attrax, recently acquired by smart recruiters which we just implemented.

Any thoughts on formal career site vs. out of the box career page that's kind of basic?

Indeed sponsoring keeps getting progressively more expensive - set a daily max run for $25 and got (8) applies within 3 hrs but the actual spend was $62.

What the hell.

Our company of 110 EEs has separate providers for payroll and HRIS, not happy with either products. I’m gathering data to make a pitch to move everything into an all-in-one HRIS + payroll.

Does it make any difference to make the change effective the first week of 2023 payroll, or to make a change in payroll providers mid year? I’m thinking it’s best to start fresh at the beginning of the year and not worry about two payroll companies for reporting. What are other things to consider?

Does anyone use ADP for end to end including payroll and background checks, and recruitment?

Has anyone used both Lever AND Greenhouse ATSs? Our Lever agreement is coming up for renewal and I’m putting together a pitch to switch to Greenhouse. I would love any input into comparing the features so I can best ‘sell’ leadership on Greenhouse.

During the pandemic we started incorporating SparkHire for one way video interviews and now my hiring managers are super attached to it. Is there any argument to hold onto one way video interviews anymore or should I drop it?

If you find this drop a comment and share what you've hated/loved. I've hated:
ApplicantStack
Talent Pool Builder
Oracle Recruitment Cloud TextRecruit (a neat idea but sooo not worth the cost per applicant imo) Career Builder (its odd to include on this list but it is)
I'm ambivalent about: Zapify (the thing that imports resumes from other places into your ats - so clunky compared to a manual upload)
SmartCRM - still new but it seems like an afterthought to SmartRecruit
