I was in BigLaw for 9 years and left because I hit my savings target. FIRE kept me motivated. I’m now primarily supporting my wife’s career (BigLaw counsel) as her job has unparalleled flexibility and she legit enjoys it, so we’ll use that to get the rest of the way to full financial independence. For myself, I’m currently focused on writing, wildlife photography, and fitness goals. Its unlikely that I will return to the legal field in the future. I’ve written more about it here if interested: https://www.attorneyevolved.com/post/biglaw-early-retirement
Quick qstn - I'm receiving HRA of 24075 from my employer but I would like dhow the rent paid as 96k p.a (while filing ITR). Even if I do so, I was only able to get exemption of 24075 from gross. Checking if we can speak to payroll department to increase Actual HRA since I'm actually paying more rent than compared. Will I be able to do so ?Deloitte Newco EY Accenture Genpact KPMG

Need to wait 30 years not 3
VFORX is a retirement fund, it doesn’t track the S&P
Chief
Because that advice doesn’t have a 3 year timeline
Lol noob
OP gettin rekt
You’re missing the point - this is over decades not years
You will be fine. Just not right now. Wait 20-30 years and you’ll see 7-8% annual growth on average
I believe that 8% is averaged out over a certain amount of time far greater than 3 years. It’s a long term investment. Give it more time.
Zoom out. The whole idea with index fund investing is long term. Three years is nothing and as you’re seeing, subject to volatility.
Key word is average. Check again in ~10 years.
I get that I have to wait years but isn’t the point of investing early so it compounds? I could have put it in bonds for three years and gotten a guaranteed interest rate much higher than 1%.
Could have, would have, should have. All of us are hindsight billionaires.

Are you 23? Real question
What index funds? Or just basic s&p
https://www.portfoliovisualizer.com/fund-performance?s=y&symbol=VFORX&symbols=VTSAX&startDate=07%2F01%2F2019
VTSAX is up 32% since three years ago.
VFORX is up 17% since three years ago.
But OP probably didn’t invest a lump sump three years ago so dollar-cost-averaged returns will differ
Just so you know…annual return of 0%, 0%, and 24% for 3 years will also give you “average” return of 8% per year…..that’s how averages work…..plus no one can guarantee you a return in stock market. If they do then they are fraud in my opinion.
Rising Star
Index funds don’t have an average return of 8%… depends completely on the index
Also VFORX isn’t an index fund
Also 3 years is nothing
Lol
