Started in audit at 50k. In b4 FDD now 10 years later - bonus this year exceeded first year base and my total comp will be over 300k. Good money to be made sticking it out in big4, and starting to get interesting opportunities to jump to growth stage companies in finance leadership roles where the work would be very interesting and the equity upside massive.

like

Congrats! That’s awesome! When/how did you make the jump from audit to FDD?

like

Made the jump as a senior 1. We’re hiring aggressively now, good time to jump if you want to

I don’t know how you do it! 24 busy seasons… you’re a machine haha At what stage was the move to KPMG?

Accounting to strategy - 10yrs exp no mba - $270 TC

How do you get into that group! I’m a SM in tax and have an MBA. Curious what your job is like if you don’t mind talking a little about that too! Thanks in advance!

Started at IRS making $27K with just a bachelors degree. Was making $60K 8 years later when I left to join PwC for $100K plus $5K signing bonus. Now making $425K plus bonus as an MD.

So you’re saying there is a chance?

Started in audit at PwC for 2.5 years, moved to strategy at Deloitte. 135,000 and 15k signing bonus. 150 TC in first year

P4 - answer is it depends. We are hiring heavily right now and a lot of the ‘soft’ consulting skills are very transferable since we are very client facing at both PwC and Deloitte. I hold all of the core AWS certs (3 associates and 2 professionals) as well as two privacy certs. I did a lot of enablement in addition to client work and pushed that experience hard during my final interviews so that my comp conversation was as close to the top of the pay scale as possible. I wanted to move over as a SC but took a consultant role - probably played a factor in them offering more money as well.

audit >> accounting advisory >> industry. Total comp ~$300k.

like

Ohh the number of the beast lol That’s great though, congrats on the recent move! I hear SEC reporting can have similar hours to big four. In you recent experience, does that seem accurate?

Went from ~60 to ~100, after 4 years working. Nothing crazy, but didn’t realize I’d end up actually getting to six figs in my 20s.

What does the Investor Relations career path look like for someone coming in at an early-ish level? I’ve heard it’s kind of dead-end and doesn’t really teach you any hard skills but pretty easy, especially if you can produce a decent track record of fundraising. Also, I’ve heard comp is ok and typically lower than consulting (and WAY lower than the investment teams…) and mostly concentrated among the top dogs. Accurate? Anyone know people who took this path?

Partners won’t turn down more work despite the associate exodus. I get it. Firms are businesses. But, there will be consequences. Deadlines will be missed, things will be sloppy. PSA to associates: you’re the loser here because we are in a service profession and firms make profit off of how many hours they can squeeze out of us minus our fixed salary. Put yourself first because no one else will. To those who say it’s justified cause $$$, I say no job should require us to sacrifice our health.

I'm in final rounds w a large tech company (interview already scheduled), but I saw that the company just removed the job posting I'm applying for on their website. Does this mean they already selected a candidate and I'm wasting my time? Or does it mean they have enough candidate selection for the final round to where if I have an offer, I'm less able to negotiate since the company has a lot of back up candidates. First time leaving consulting so all of this is new to me.
