my respect for the big 4 has dropped tremendously after working for one of them.
We live in a "grass is greener in the other side" entitled society... Deloitte is actually very well respected in the market.
This is fishbowl where everyone expects everything to be a dream where everyone makes $500k a year for 20 hours of work per week and benefits like they are royalty.
Most people on fishbowl are delusional and out of touch with reality.

It’s still at the top of the Big4 in consulting.
Consulting is more competitive than it was 10 and 15 years ago. Competitively though there are more firms and a lot of the talent has been also been lost to tech companies.
People also act like an SAP or Salesforce project is beneath them and that somehow with little to no actual experience, they could be advising on executive strategy.
Hi ,
Thank you for this exceptional insight.
That’s the reason why I will apply to T1, T2 or eventually start my own consulting business.

Deloitte is harder to get into than Harvard, better luck next time
I work at Deloitte. Harvard would cringe at the thought of admitting me :)
Big4 has always seemed more like a place that universities push you to work at vs a place where people with established careers actually want to work at.
There is an advantage to coming into D from an established career. If you are well known in your industry/sector they will pay you a nice salary, and you have a team supporting you (as opposed to starting your own thing, where you have to do it all).

Find me a single organization that doesn't get bad mouthed? Then take the number of those that do rail on it and apply there necessary math to find the proportional equivalent.
I have a lot of respect for Deloitte and find them to be a fierce and worthy competitor. A number of their practices within the firm are top notch, especially on the consulting side, amongst the Big 4. We all play to our strengths and in the end, the culture and the people really determine the reputation in the market and for partners and staff. The hiring process for all the Big 4 can be imperfect. We can miss good talent, especially at the college entry level, when the applicant pool is large and the relative experience and other objective measurements are less defined. The hope is that you have another shot at talent later in their career cycle. For my preferences, I like the culture and opportunities at PWC and came to the firm after my first job. Best of luck at Meta.
Came to PWC from Accenture and love the culture!
Worked there for 3 years and moved to a boutique and have a much better experience.
Deloitte has top talent and is known for high quality services. Culturally it’s much more demanding than most places. I’d say 3/10 projects are horrible, 5/10 neutral and reasonable 40-50 hour weeks, and 2/10 are easy and fun. Getting on a good projects and teams is luck of the draw.
Great start to a career and not a place to stay at long term.

Wait until you hear about what people are saying about Meta, including their founder.
ETA: I wouldn’t trust Zuck to watch my toddler, so that company is a short for me and I’ll have fun watching them waste billions on stapping a set of goggles on your head and working in an avatar office.
The issue with Facebook and Meta is that it's a garbage ass company that contributes nothing and only causes problems. If you are just chasing money, good for you, have at it.
I love Deloitte and the people I work with. I think it really depends what group you land into. Don’t believe everything you read. I believe a lot of low performers come on here to complain.
I love Deloitte. Been here > 15 years.

Thanks Deloitte 57
I mean it’s not great but it’s not horrible. Definitely quantity of sold projects over quality project work kind of place at least right now and that’s definitely affected talent.
I’m a boomerang back to Big 4, started at Deloitte. I think as they’ve grown, the quality has been diluted. Too much competition for talent. Big 4 could get top people from flagship state schools a decade ago. Definitely not the case now.
I will say that Deloitte standards and quality on average is best out of big 4. Doesn’t have the “elite” T2 mini firm (I.e. S&), but more consistent across practices. With that comes more hrs and pressure. I’m definitely enjoying EYP (WLB and pay) at my current level vs what things were like at Deloitte.
I have worked for KPMG, Deloitte, and Guidehouse. Deloitte was my favorite and I would work there again. What I learned after I left is that you have to be strategic about the projects you work on and relationships are everything. That is the best way to get ahead at Deloitte. Guidehouse was cool too but there are many workaholics at the firm that feel like working a lot of hours is something to brag about and it is easy to get burned out. However, everything depends on your project and team.

How dare you
Agreed so much, getting into big 4 right out of college wasn't easy except for rich/legacy kids. I was really proud to get Deloitte, Accenture, and 4 boutique offers. People really don't appreciate what they have!! It's a great gig.
Two big factors at play.
1. (Less important) brand has declined because consulting as a field now has much more competition from tech. This has impacted every firm in the space.
2. (More important) as you have gotten older and more experienced, your perspective has changed. Deloitte understandably seemed amazing when you were a relatively poorly informed college student who wasn't too far removed from retail/food jobs. When you work for a while and hear about FAANG, private equity, rich entrepreneurs and other opportunities, your perspective shifts, and Deloitte looks more mediocre than amazing.
The big 3 consulting firms are Bain, BCG, McKinsey. Some boutiques have very high prestige. Deloitte is very large, but will be tied to the accounting firm.
Deloitte still kills it. As the only private big 4 firm, nobody really knows what's going on except personnel. Just wait a few years for the metrics dropkick.
The only “private” big4 ? What?
Says the person from Meta 😅😅😅
