I was laid off for what say eight months before I found the job and it’s stressful especially when there’s things that you have to take care of like the basics like food, rent student loans, credit card bills paying for gas you know these are moments when your mind starts questioning your own abilities. You know that started happening to me. I started questioning my ability as an engineer as somebody that designs products using Creo testing products with groups of people you know delegating information getting things done. It’s important to understand that it is difficult at this moment to find a job and it is natural and normal for you to start doubting what you’re able to do but I think this is when you need to make sure you sit down with yourself and write down all the things that you’ve been able to accomplish. This helps reinforce your abilities reinforces that you can get shit done. visualize write down exactly what you’re looking for in a job connect with people on LinkedIn. Reach out to people that you never reached out to in a long time that are within your network. Let them know your situation. People are always willing to help you just have to know how to approach them how to send that message how to write that email in a way that they understand you’re trying and you’re trying to figure it out but you do need help.
Welcome to the group! I was let go in mid-January. Went through numerous interview rounds. Finally, got an offer letter last week and signed it! Starting soon. The raise over the previous job is roughly 40% based on base salary and better bonus. My family and I could not be happier.
Was laid off six almost seven months- starting a job in two weeks
I was laid off last april so it is almost a year with no success in any interviews. Done more than 12 interviews.
A manufacturing company in Canada
I was laid off 3 years ago and have struggled to even get an interview. I was previously an Executive Director with a global team at a large corporation with 30 years of experience and an MBA from a relatively elite university. I am selling real estate now.
I think my age 52 has a lot to do with the lack of interest, but honestly just getting someone to look at your resume is 99% of the battle. LinkedIn is a total waste of time. Leverage your network relentlessly.
Good luck to everyone. Hang in there. Don't wait too long to move to your backup plan. I wish I had done it sooner.
