I've worked as an SDR for about 16 months and am one of the top performers. Im at the stage where I'm interested in exploring AE positions. However, my company has experienced four layoffs in the past 15 months, making the path to AE uncertain. Given my lack of closing experience, should I seek an SDR role at a more promising company with potential for AE promotion, or should I pursue external opportunities for an AE position? I know the market is difficult, but just looking for some advice.

I’d say go for the AE position. If you are laid off or want to move to another company you’ll now have in your resume both experiences as SDR and AE so you can get any of those positions anywhere else

Additional Posts in Business Development Reps (BDRs and SDRs)

What positions can I apply for at other companies with only bdr experience?

like

Top SDRs oftentimes don't sound like traditional salespeople when cold calling. They use a very casual voice tone.

Here are a few tips:

1. Avoid upward inflections at the end of sentences. This makes it sound like everything you ask is a question
2. Slow down and eliminate buzzwords. Speaking fast makes you sound nervous and less confident
3. Avoid reading from a script - internalize your message and put it into your own works so you sound like YOU!

Thoughts? What are your top tips?

Resources for an enterprise BDR?

Hello All,

I recently got a job working as a BDR for an enterprise rep. We sell a SaaS product for other tech companies. It is a new realm for me as I have been primarily an AE throughout my career.

What resources are out there to help me learn how to work these accounts (500+ person companies)? looking for tips on everything from writing email cadences, sending video messages, and even qualifying leads during discovery calls.

Thanks for the help!
