Just now learning about FIRE, mid-thirties and two small kids. Where do I read about FIRing with little kids? Any website recommendations?

I don’t think there are a ton of great resources for this (same boat; married, mid-30s, two small kids), many of the top FIRE accounts are childless (MadFientist, Paula Pant, etc) / single / have only one child (Mr Money Mustache). Possible exception is Mr/Mrs 1500 Days. Biggest issue for everyone is healthcare, kids just compound that - and with kids you have education / daycare. Bigger Pockets Money has several podcasts on making college affordable. Hope that helps

Thank you! I will look into the resources you suggested. Education, healthcare, and daycare is what we have been struggling with. Makes it nearly impossible to cut down on ecpenses a whole lot. Adding new streams of income is also not easy with kids.

How has having kids affected your career?

Any other strategists have their spouse, lover, partner tell you “you just like to argue” ?

My view is while I like to debate I don’t like to argue (the later being infused with negative emotion/pain)

Ya’ll have similar struggles?

We want to find a career that allows her to work remote or that at least gives her a better work life balance so that she can see her kids grow up. I give massive kudos to all the parents out there juggling work and home life. But it’s starting to feel like I pulled the short stick by not having a kid. Really struggling to pick up all of the slack from all of the colleagues that do have kids and feel like the expectation is that parents should turn off while the rest are working from 7am - 2am everyday to make up for it.

How are you all feeling about required in person training & team building activities? Am I wrong to not want to participate in karaoke or cornhole or dodgeball when it has nothing to do with work? I hate the idea of having to drive 2-3 hours, stay overnight in a hotel, & leave my 1 year old for mandatory training like this. Anyone else feel this way too? And also I work a remote position. Never in my original contract did they mention it’s 10-20% traveling required

Just turned 20 and realized I suck at making meaningful social interactions and just making friends in general. My best friend is my SO. I’m in my senior year of school and interning at the same time and feeling a bit down since I have major social anxiety and can’t seem to connect with my peers in college. Any hope for me once I’m in full-time?

So other than money (which is obviously very important) what’s the incentive to make partner? Is it crazy that I just want to do my work and go home to my amazing family without the added pressure of running a business and managing others? I’m only a third year (in a new practice area) so maybe the thought of being competent enough to ever be a partner just seems unrealistic. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Open Enrollment Q:
Debating between High Deductible (for HSA) & PPO options.
My spouse has some expensive medications. Annual insurance allowed amount is ~$40K for us in 2021. Since we are currently on PPO, we only paid ~$500 out of pocket.
With a high deductible plan, we would pay ~ $7K out of pocket since HD Plan only pays 90% after the deductible. Is there anyone in similar situation? Does enrolling in a high deductible plan for HSA make sense in this case? Anyone in similar situation?
