Open a brokerage account with Vanguard and invest $3K into VTSAX
No worries - $3K to open and any additional investments only need to be $1.00 (and no monthly minimum).
There are better options. Try vanguard or schwab. they have low cost ETFs
If you want to automate your investments you’ll need to do an index fund (usually 3k min) but if manual, just do an etf - literally identical to the index fund. Vanguard, schwab, fidelity, E*TRADE, everyone does it.
Also I’d suggest reading up on personal finance and getting a little more comfortable with the investment world. My favorite book was “I will teach you to be rich” - great step by step and helps you manage your world.
I’d definitely suggest having a good budget that you stick to in order to be able to increase your recurring investments.
Also a word of affirmation! Better to start saving now- comparing yourself to others can be frustrating.
In general, I’m a huge fan of Vanguard. Consistently low cost, good service if you ever call, and wide selection.
