My go to is a mix of sweater/blouse (weather dependent), slacks/skirt, and flats. Sometimes a sheath dress and flats.

Rarely/almost never heels. Suit jacket stays on the back of the door in case of need.

Suit sans jacket. Today's trends make it hard to sway from that formula.

Just here to vent that I feel severely disadvantaged for being a POC with partnership aspirations my firm. I've seen much younger white associates in my practice group get to go on client pitches, and as an nearly 7th year associate, I haven't been invited to go on a single one (even after voicing concerns about this to the partners in my group). I do great work, bill a lot of hours, and think I have a solid reputation but it's hard not to read the writing on the wall here. :(

After 20 years, I've have had a lot of bosses. I've learned I'm not the best judge of what they'll be like to work with. Some I thought would be fine were awful.

Now I'm interviewing and want to better dig for insights. I think I'm unlikely to get honest answers from underlings, and bad bosses are rarely self-aware.

Any suggestions besides "What are you/they like to work with? Rigid, exacting, and high-maintenance? Or smart, generous mentor?" (I'm exaggerating, but you get the idea.)

In my office we have a very small number of black people. I don’t know the exact numbers but it doesn’t seem like more than 10. All of them I know >3 are on a personal improvement plan for very basic reasons. One faced blatant racism and was placed off the project. Therefore it was harder for this person to find a new project. How to investigate if this is correlates with microagressions and discrimination towards black people? Any ideas? How to convince non POC that this is a problem?

So i accepted another position, but love my current firm...its really because of money.....do i tell my firm in my 2 week notice letter the name of the firm or just be upfront that its a better financial move at the moment? Please help im trying to do this by tonight lol...love u all for feedback

Last week team dynamics took a turn for the worst (even tho in each retro the team always commend each other, you would think team work is great). Okay so I am quitting my job because of my supervisor.

Do I:
A) just leave and say it’s due to career progression
B) Leave but tell them in a diplomatic way it’s not the company or for career progression it is because I cannot work with him as he has no leadership or management skills. ( without going into details)
C) tell them everything ( I find this option petty especially if there is no outcome (I am definitely leaving)
If you think there is another option -lmk

It’s amazing to me that it’s a running joke in the legal community that typos magically appear in pleadings the minute after they’re submitted, and yet associates are made to feel like shit when there’s the smallest of errors or mistakes in documents.

I'm a 1st year @ a civil lit defense firm. I summered here and got the "our firm culture is amazing, we want to grow and help you learn" pitch and accepted the offer of $75k, thinking that was what most other associates make (I'm 1st gen). But today I found out that associates with 4yrs experience are making $80k; for hitting the 1950 billable req., the bonus is $1k. I've also found there are big DEI problems that I can't overlook. It feels like the pitch was a big lie. Advice?

So, I hate my job. For years I’ve been trying to work through nitty gritty and minutiae in the hopes that sorting out those details would “fix” my dissatisfaction. I’ve switched jobs a few times and dabbled in a few practice areas. But I’ve realized I just hate practicing law. Is there any reason to tell your boss or supervisor that you’re miserable? My assumption is no. They won’t fix things. So why would you? Any reason I should reconsider? (P.S. looking for an exit, but that’s not settled.)

I am an incoming associate (awaiting bar results). I have already begun working as a law clerk and am already being given plenty of tasks to fill my time, which I’m grateful for. I am also fortunate to be in working in an area of the law that is personally fulfilling to me, so a lot of the work I do doesn’t feel like work. Here’s the thing: I do my absolute best. I give polished, clean work, and I always give my personal best. However, it seems like a lot of the tasks I do always get sent back..
